Crap boat names

My boat ....

Superanne - so many times I'm asked about the wife .... Anne ....

Well to put recod straight .... the name comes from a Superannuation payment made to previous owner and he called the boat SUPERANNE in memory of it ..... silly sod ..... wish it was called something else ....

May just try the story of walking round it and speaking to it nicely in a new name and change it ...... SWMBO will likely want to do the Russian thing and annoint it with a bit of alcohol !! That'll go well with D&D rules coming in !!!!

A few years ago my Seawych broke its mooring (the riser to the buoy snapped) and wrapped itself around an overhanging tree on the shore (well where else), causing externsive damage to the rigging etc. After the refit, especially as I had to have the dodgers replaced, I was tempted to rename her something like "Wrex" or "Shipwrex". Fortunately good sense prevailed!

Well, my current boat was originally called 'Just Beer Money', and painted a rather unpleasant yellow. She looks much better in blue and as Quicksilver ...

I'm surprised noone has mentioned the many 'Betty Swallocks' that lurk around the coast...

I did consider calling the new boat 'In flagrante delicto' - at that stage SWMBO hadn't realised that I was serious when I said I was replacing the old boat (which was being sold cos she said she didnt enjoy sailing any more) with something a little racier.

Two that I know about....
My Minisail of a million years ago was called 6 & 7/8... i.e Capsize.....
and on the River Crouch are to be seen Cirrhosis of the River and (in)Conference. Many others abound especially the raffish sorts of the racing fraternity.

Current (old) boat is a Trintella 51A, big solid cruising boat - you may well have seen one on the hamble, with a distinctive Trintella doghouse.

The new boat is a Schock 40, Canting keel, twin (fwd and aft) rudders, called Wraith. You may find pics of both at www.navwiz.com ..

Apart from being unable to get your machine into Porthmadog (OK, you could at high springs) you would be horrified at some of the names there. Porthmadog (Port-mad-dog) ain't the place for you Matt.

Pwllheli probably isn't either on account of the fact that some of the large stinkies have really cruddy names. I mean two fingers down throat type names.

On similar lines, saw a small dinghy marked "Hic!" with underneath "t/t Chez Wen". But I never saw the bigger boat. A gin palace, perhaps?

Saw a Rib in Salcome a couple of years ago called Ribbed for Pleasure which made me chuckle.

Many years ago a new boat built by Berthon had been named "Overdraft" by its owner, referring to the effect on his bank account.

Unfortunately when launched, to Berthon's embarassment, she was floating well below her marks and boot topping!

Perhaps not such a good idea even now in NW Ireland.

Went through Crinan Canal a few years ago locking with a big Beneteau called Duckwall Pooley. Thought it rather a good name but how d'you arrive at that?

I guess I must be really sad then

I or we as a family did not get a choice naming our cat 'Top Cat', but she does have her own logo of a cat in tophat and tails rather than relying upon the HB cartoon version. See my logo on the left!

Thing is though, what makes me really sad we finally named the tender last week,

Officer Dibble, only so it sounds sad when calling from the handheld back to the boat.

A bright Yellow Laser named 'Sclerosis of the River' and another rather old Laser named 'Jurassic Barque'...and they say humour amongst dinghy sailors is dead!

Saw a broker a few years ago (Berthon, if memory serves) listing both 'Mary Hinge' and 'Choccy Starfish'.
