I am mounting a campaign against rubbish boat names. Top (bottom?) of the list are those who combine his'n'hers names to make up the name of the boat. I think the practice should be outlawed and the miscreants fined heavily, or shot. Dickabeth, Willippa and Lenemma, this means you. Any others?

Live and let live; at least the crap name may indicate whether or not you should give the vessel a wide berth?

Somebody's crap name may be another's amusing name.

If you (and possibly others) have their way, and to be PC, and in these days of over-regulation, we may be faced with having to have SSR numbers as the boat's name. Think about it.

There is Brian Humber's 'Ronhilda', but she is a beautiful boat, so there is probably a good reason for the name choice, and he is a Little Ship Club member like me, so obviously I think this is a nice choice.
What about 'Mustn't Grumble', 'Don't Panic', 'Norty Too','Sail'er Easy', 'Roaring Meg', 'Flying Pig', for starters. And some of those really sexist names the racing yachts are called. But I can't think of any of these now.
And I have checked my spelling this time.

Possibly crap, but humorous:

The boat: Knot Paid IV

The Tender: Paid IV

Tickled my funny bone anyway!

There was a Flying Pig in Ardfern a year or two ago - I think it was something to do with coming into a few bob or an enhanced early retirement package and the notion that pigs might fly therefore becoming a reality.

what may seem a crap name to you will obviously have a meaning to the owner so can't really see why that should upset you. Out of interest what do you call yours and why?

As I have mentioned here before, I think my mate north of the border is pushing his luck with 'FOCHINELL'.

I wonder what the correlation is between the "Dickabeth, Willippa and Lenemma" type boat owners and the car vanity plate owners of the meaningless ilk of DIKS1, BETS12, MYONE, etc.

Sure to be high I would expect.

What seemed a sad choice to me was:

Begrudged

I think it was in Port Edgar, on the Firth of Forth.

I have a friend who's boat name is "Four Play" the reason - there are four of them and it's how they play. I can only assume it's your dirty mind which is reading more into the names than there is?? /forums/images/icons/wink.gif
