Cranchi 29 Zaffiro

Sorry but now I'm totally lost, mine has an integral platform not bolted etc and I would think NOT very easy to hit as it does not protrude way beyond the rear transome wall. ??? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

That is true,

My Bros Four Winns 268 had a huge bolt on platform that was great in the med...but useless in a UK marina as he kept crunching it! Always looked a mess with chipping etc off it. Having said that for the Med where berths are 8m, 10m, 12m etc and you pay for the size of berth (not boat) I would have the platform!

Hi PY,

Nice Review,

Do you know anyone who has helmed one yet? Just wondering if the handling is up to usual cranchi standards. Also, I wonder how she is with the single D4....as that would be my choice.

Cheers

They have only tested it with the D3's on the Cranchi website...and it can only reach 31knots. Mind you it is short and fat!

The benefit of the beam and the bolt on platform is that the cockpit is pretty large! The seating is pushed right back so there is a very narrow transom and more room in the boat.

The Monte 27 with Single D4 260hp is £88,900 + VAT which is £9k more than with a single Petrol 5.7 320hp!

I get the feeling they will be going head to head on price! The monte is though narrower and the cockpit felt quite small...but I like the helm up arrangement. If I were buying, it might be a tight contest ... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I know someone who did and told me it is unbeleviable seaworthy, now this guy delivers a few Cranchis, but I beleive him, but the draft very deep at over 1 metre for a sterndrive boat suggest she can take the double of similar sized boats, the more the draft the more she can handle comfortable normally

I can feel myself regretting this as I type, but here goes.

You are right, that is a deep draft for that size of boat. I am asuming that is to the bottom of the leg.

Deep draft does not equal good seakeeping. If the draft is deep becasue the boat has a high deadrise then what you say is correct - the boat will sit lower because the hull has a reduce flat area and is naturally less boyant.

If the boat is just heavy, it doesnt neccessarily follow that the boat will peform well in the rough weather.

Spot on. It certainly has a look of the grey coloured Sealines of the 1980's. Sleek, it ain't but then Cranchi tend to go their own way on styling (that's a nice way of saying that I think some of their boats look hideous)

I have seen and been on a new Bene 27 too, and I have to say it dissapointed me too.
On the outside it looks a bit nicer than the Cranchi, but the Interior was dreadful, and I felt very cramped, I commented to the dealer it was very Cuddy like.

Again, not my cup of tea.

Cheers

at 3800 kg for a 29 footer she is not light nor heavy, that is a bit in between
hmm you can have 2 types of deep draft one is by the vee the other is by the width
Cranchi have 18 deg normally aft, which a moderated vee, few builders go over 20 nowadays
but deepvee does not always mean super seakeeping eighter the new Olenski hulls all have 18, the older FL had 15 deg
go on both in tuff stuff and tell me which fares better

you are right deep draft does not always mean seakeeping but nor does a deep vee hull for that...

I agree the Venezia is a very nice boat, but I get the feeling the prices will be 15% above the euro options. I was moments away from signing up for a Prestencia at SIBS a few years ago but could not close out the deal (after the show I was offered the deal but too late). I love the Doral Package, but because of the 15% premium I will only buy second hand.

Funnily enough a very nice Prestencia, 2 year old can be had now for £75k so that is a definite opportunity.

In relation to the Venezia, I will wait and see how they fare on the market first.

Cheers
