Am taking my famiy to Isle of wright in august and was wondering where the best vantage points are to see the action afloat

Afloat if you can....
If not, aim to be on the green at the starts (see their website for details of when) and then if there's a windy day (esp if the wind is in the west) MAKE SURE you are on the green with a camera as the fleets are finishing. (Usually between 3 and 4)
There is nothing in racing quite like the final run up the green to the RYS line...
Handily, Cowes week have all the info you need!
