I just recalled my first Cowes week. It was 1969 and I was moored outside of a brand new Broom Continental. In those days considered to be a very large TSDY. Around the corner of the pontoons came a French yacht, with much shouting and a breeze of garlic this yacht failed to stop and rammed their bowsprit right through the stern cabin window of the Broom. By now there are Froggies everywhere screaming abuse at each other, spectators hurling advice and a huge crowd gathering. Suddenly everything went silent and a rotund gentleman appeared on the stern of the Broom. Resplendant in a silky padded smoking jacket, he surveyed the scene, looked over the stern, looked up at the Skipper of the French yacht and said "I say, are you trying to attract my attention"
I instantly took a liking to this cool, calm and collected man. Whom, I later found out was a WW2 Spitfire/Hurricane ace.

There are people around like this. I saw on the river Percuil a 60' gleaming yacht, the sort you need sun glasses on to look at it. This gentleman was hoisting up the sails wearing a white suit and matching white hat.
