Just a warning that anybody that still has cover from Cover My Boat Insurance let them try and claim, My awning was lost in April and have failed to get any response from them, you can ring and ring you may get lucky and get an answer they then promise you the world, but never return calls or send out claim forms. I have given up now, so if you pay by direct debit stop paying them now, They have ceased trading in boat insurance since late last year

Hi Gary go on their web site try and get a quote, I have nothing else because they do not make contact

Hi Chris.. have done so and sent them an email askign if I am still covered if they're apparently not taking new business through their web site at least since Nov 2011... They did change my mooring details back in March replying to confirm the change in details so they're still acting like cover is in place if that's a good yardstick to go by.. thanks for posting the warning

cover my boat

I think the issue is my cover finished 21 June and paid upfront, as soon as I made contact they stated we will not be re-insuring you anymore! it felt as if they were not going to pay up then, I have never made a claim in the 12 years of boating and frustrated to say the least,

thanks again Chris, that's useful... My insurance expires in Nov so it seems I've the summer to get through with crossed fingers before opting for the likes of GJW on renewal

I have used GJW for about 10 years now and have found them to be 100% reliable and am about to take out a second policy with them. Unlike others there has been no premium increase for the last few years.

Gary,

For piece of mind I think I'd be tempted to cancel the remainder of the policy..... I know this means loosing a few quid but in the grand scheme of stern drive repairs it's pence :D and I'd insure with one of the more reputable companies......

At least I'd sleep at night then.

Paul.

Denovo Marine Underwriting

As far as insurance companies go (spit, grrr, spit) I can personally thoroughly recommend DENOVO MARINE UNDERWRITING.

I insured with them some seven years ago and until selling my boat a couple of months ago I have nothing but praise for them.

Competitive premiums and cover which really is first class.
I had a very unusual claim and they actually guided me on how to present it in order for them to pay out.

They are a small Lymington based underwriter so no huge call centres.
When you ring, Shelly answers, Shelly sends out your policy docs and the following year it will be her sending out your renewal.
They have a rep on the road, Dean Shaw, who is happy to talk directly to clients and provide advice.

Owned by a former director of one of the very big insurance companies they bring seriously good cover with a small company ethos.

Ditch the online bucket shop and deal with someon who will actually look after you.

Agree with the others re getting a policy elsewhere. If they're not even sending out claim forms what chance is there of actually getting paid? Zero by the sounds of it. The money you'll lose by cancelling will seem like a rounding error if you smash your outdrive on something, and with your recent luck Gary.....

I have just renewed with gjw again for the 4th time with my current boat, I did shop around for other quotes, only one ame in cheaper out of 5 other quotes, which after discussion they matched it, top marks to g j w.

I also decided to stay with them as I have first hand dealings with other companies through business who I'd say dont sometimes honour what they take the customers money for.
