Yes, the Italian tune-up is good for removing carbon accumulations on the tips but cannot do much for debris inside.I think he meant running flat out against the tide would mean the engine was working as hard as possible.

I don't know what tides are like in Chichester but you might find yourself doing frightening SOG at full chat with the tide.But running flat out with the tide would be just the same as far as the engine was concerned.
