Cory Kent 33 or Nelson 34?

I think MBY or MBM had a great article in their latest issue, final page funny story that kinda sums up nicely the transition and benefits you will encounter...

Hi Firefly625,

The last page article in October's MBY is mine, so very pleased you enjoyed it....and I'm still loving my Nimbus 320!! :)

Hi Allan

I did indeed enjoy your article! :)

All your points were so valid and we related to them 100%! Warmth, comfort, speed of getting to your destination are all very popular in our household & the fact was for me sailing was a means to which to get to a destination rather than solely an enjoyable sport, therefore a motorboat was a revelation as I realised that I loved "boating" slightly more than I loved "sailing"!

We been looking at a Nelson 29 but can find one in nice condition, so looking at a Nimbus 310/320 which i=ticks a lot of boxs
the kent 33 looks as if it would be better but how ease is it to get on board with that free board as we are now a bit stiff in the legs??
twin engines 130 hp what sort of speed will they give at cruising revs ?

Bit of a resurrection of an old post,

Nimbus high sides, you can only get on or off from the stern (OK for majority of motorboaters... not for me), Kent's I have always liked the look of but access only from the side, gap in hand rails, perhaps get a small step to put on the pontoon... someone on here had a Kent many moons ago and I seem to recall had a few issues with build quality, however of course second hand boats you hope will have any historic issues sorted. Never keen on Nanni engines, again perhaps just me.. maybe some engine experts out there will sing their praises.

Best guessimate on performance...(they seem to come with either twin 130's or 200's) - Max 13-17knots / Cruise 9-13knots...?

If you were looking at Nelson 29's... I assume you have also looked at Seaward 29's, (they have 2 for sale at the moment on Brokerage).

Have you also considered a Mitchell 31MkIII or MkIV ? (I have one... good boat, low freehold easy to get on and off..)

edited bit - just had a look, only some pretty scrappy Mitchells for sale at the moment... so not good recommendation!

So .... we went to see a Kent 33 and it was in such good condition, ticked so many of our boxes that after a lot of deliberation we put in an offer ... which was accepted a couple of days ago! Now we're definitely beginning to get excite. All being well we will be the new owners on Wednesday 5th September and will be bringing her back to Salcombe on the Thursday. I'll let you all know how it goes!
Hi I know its a few years but how did your experience with the Kent 33 work out?
We're considering one and was hoping you could pass on your experience. We've also got a (modest) budget for upgrades, so like you I'm interested in what didn't work so well and you'd like to have changed.
We would be on the rivers, estuary and coast line of the East Anglian Coast.
Fingers crossed for a reply.
PS did you ever have any pictures etc.

Recently bought a Nelson 34, our first mobo after 30 years sailing and more than happy with the decision. Considerations were no 1, seakeeping ability which has been vindicated utterly. People say they are wet,I have found that as the water stays outside , its not a problem. Rolly at anchor, yes , but far less so than any yacht and no more so than other similar Aquastar,Cygnus,Mitchell,Lochin type semi disp boat. Easy to get into from a dinghy, easy to access or egress onto a pontoon to tie up, a very important consideration for us. The only downside is certainly space, but coming from a yacht and as a cruising couple we were ok with the compromise .
Ours has twin Yanmar 170's and cruises in all sea conditions at 12/13 kts at 20 lit /hr. She will do 20kts flat out and is massively stable and sea kindly. We cruise the Irish west coast, so know all about big seas. Lastly, the build quality , construction and sensible layout inspires confidence.

Thank you for these thoughts, I know I really should look at the Nelsons, my brother raves about them!
We don't intent to deliberately go out in rough weather and really looking for comfortable cruising in a really well built boat but not too slow for when we want to move on to a completely different location. I was a little concerned that the Kent might be a bit too tardy!
I haven't really been able to find any performance figures, what I have read have all been rather contradictory.
