My SWMBO and daughter both disliked the tipping business, and this lead to my purchase of a catamaran. Next time you are at a boatshow go and have a look at a Lagoon 38 or 41, and enjoy close hauled work at a slant of about 2 degrees!

The ones Bav fit are not indeed the best, but I, and the rest of the crew will never forget the full english breakfast (and I mean FULL), served up by yourself at dawn, approaching Cherbourg last year. I didn't appreciate the washing up afterwards though. Still, no pain, no gain!!

Kind of you to say, but I must apologise for the disgraceful lack of kedgeree and the caviar blinis.

Soon after that meal, I set about trying to clean the glass cover on the over door. Gloop had dripped inside the two panes. Ordinarily this would be a simple task of taking off 2 screws. But when I did this on the Techimpex one, backing plates and all sorts fell into the casing. After about two hours I had the entire cooker in about 200 pieces! The quality of the design is really shoddy. After another two hours trying to re-assemble it with all the pieces in the right place (and nursing deep cuts to my hands after being slashed by unfinished steel edges), you can imagine I remain a fan of these fabulously cruddy articles of equipment! Only 3 years old, the oven is rusting. Get a bulk deal on two Force 10s - I'll have one!

You will never know what you are missing unless you try. You very rarely find people changing from a cat to a monohull, but frequently from mono to cat. Even Stingo very nearly swapped over. 99% of the derogatory comments are from people who have never been in one.

However, if you really dont want to swap over to the joys of cat sailing, dont let your family anywhere near one /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

What puzzles me is why so many multihull sailors seem determined to convert those of us perfectly content with our existing monohulls.

Can you explain this strange behaviour, or are multihull sailors the Jehovas of the sailing fraternity?

Not determined to convert anyone. I am well aware that we all have different needs for our boats based on requirements and experience. That is why there are so many different sorts of boats available, and we all think ours is the best compromise (or at least most of us do /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
To be brutally honest we are probably all correct, in that for each of us the boat we have selected is the best compromise for us. But circumstances do change and for some, that also requires a change in philosophy and in boat type. For most the main change is merely to go larger. For others, the needs are met by modifying the existing boat to remove the aspect of her performance that we least like.

However, there are others who need a completely new style to meet their circumstances, and Where advice is sort, and I believe I have a valid contribution to make, I feel honour bound to make that contribution., naturaly you have complete freedom to disagree (however incorrect you may be) /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

I am not in any way knocking cats - it's just my differing taste. I like saloon cars, not sports coupes or gigantic 4x4's, though I would not knock either of the latter, and would always listen to their enthusiastic owners points of view - I appreciate that you are not trying to convert me as such. You are probably correct that Mrs N would feel very much safer on a multi hull, much as she did on a sports cryuiser rather than a flybridge boat, but from a personal preference I'll stick with mono all the same.

Cheers

Mike
