I'm considering getting shot of the old flavel vanessa on my old tub and going for a 2 burner & grill only and using the space under for a microwave for when plugged in as we never use the oven anyway (or the grill for that matter), any recommendations or experience to help me consider would be appreciated.
I'm planning sticking to gas so have no interest in going all electric.
Want something that will not look too much like a camping stove and last, flame failure and leccy ignition a must.

Our solution after getting rid of the 34 year old stove. Just ensure you order the correct gimbals which are different to a stove type because you don't have 14kg of oven below to counter balance a large pan on top. The bearing position will be several inches higher compared to a stove.

Plenty of room underneath for air fryer or convection oven depending on your choice of poison. Induction hob lives in the grill, but hobs are available without the grill and with or without electric ignition. Gulf 4500

As you say, flame-failure protection is important, which is missing from the Vanessa, though we sailed happily for twelve years with one. If you are British, then a grill will be important to you, something that Swedish boatbuilders don’t seem to understand. The decision about what to do without really depends on how you use your boat, but burners and grill could be a good option. The choice of model is going to come down to what fits.

Now we've got an oven, we wouldn't be without one, if only to bake Aldidl's soughdough baguettes.

Fresh baguette, selection of chesses and a nice red looking out over an anchorage. Heaven on earth 😋😋
Totally agree. Those part baked rolls are wonderful. That said, I reckon the OP could use an Omnia(?) stove top oven to do them.

We generally aim to be in a pub for dinner as we are mostly inland and east coast marina queens, it's bacon rolls for brekkie and rarely much more when things go to plan, the oven is used to store bread and that is about it, I did light it once and it took me ten minutes to find the button to get it started so a microwave would be more useful and flame failure would be nice, gimbal is not important as it's a mobo and we don't use the cooker on the go anyway, I have an old genny I can fire up if no power available that would run a microwave easily as long as I switch off immersion heater first.
Thanks for the suggestions folks.

How do you find the air fryer? I've been hearing a lot of positive things about them - basically a turbo oven from what it sounds like..? Do you think you could use one from the batteries?

We have an air fryer on board, but actually prefer the Remoska, just more versatile. That said the basic Ninja (1500w) is really quick. Frozen chips/sausages/chicken wings to cooked in 12 minutes, but you will need a big inverter and heavy cables if you want to do it from batteries. The Remoska is 580w by comparison and yes takes longer but cooks cakes evenly like the oven at home, just way less power. Not sure how you would time a roast dinner in an air fryer? With the Remoska, par boil the potatoes for 15m on the induction hob and then chuck it all in the Remoska together with any veg, it will be fine. Not sure about the future of the air fryer on board, its being used less and less, but could be good for quick simple meals.

A convection oven perhaps combined with a microwave could be another option, just watch the power requirements. Our initial aim was having the option of how we cook, which subsequently became nearly all electric cooking. The inverter is a 1600w Sterling pure sine wave and sized to run induction hob, electric kettle, toaster and sandwich maker, each about 1kW. That halved the gas usage, so we tried the Ninja, but it won't run as the inverter doesn't have enough 'headroom', so shore power only for the moment. Next we discovered Remoskas, brilliant just like an oven and haven't looked back.

Thank you for taking the time for a comprehensive response - it’s much appreciated and given good food for thought. [sorry - couldn’t resist the pun!]
