Conwy marina!

Bloody hell Dan. We thought you had taken a slump when you left Conwy but this is rock bottom. When I've recovered from the heart attack and my prison warden, I mean the wife, drives me down to the boat (license now revoked ) I'm going to have to show you how to use an anchor so you have somewhere else to go to :encouragement:

Yes my boat is in Conwy Marina as of last week. I've been on the river for years but the berth is silting - we were grounding on many tides and also collided with the boat on the next mooring several times. Unfortunately Matt couldn't find me an alternative deep water swinging mooring, so we had to bite the bullet. Quite ironic that 4 days after putting her in the marina, there was no water there either!

Our boat was fine, but we're on the outer end of D where it's a bit deeper. I haven't heard of any damage to other boats - a couple of friends said that they had silt pumping through the heads when they flushed it through, which was the only problem for them. Looking at those photos, some boats were at quite severe angles though.

Annoying Bruce is a very important job, don't worry, I take it very seriously!

Matt had me temporarily on your mooring, or the one next to it, for a couple of weeks pre season while the rota was being reallocated very early last year. I lasted there for three days before he called to say he had put it on the outer pontoon. Something about me being a mobo and the rest being yachts I was merrily blowing everywhere banging in to every one else. And then talking of which. There are a number of very small yachts which have been abandoned on my pontoon, I'm surprised he didn't swap you. I'd have had words. I have about 5 foot under me (8 total) on spring lows, but should you ground you'd be in trouble with a floating pontoon in the main current.

That's very interesting as they tried to blame my cockpit covers for blowing us into Saracen, yet it regularly happened with no wind (and Saracen has a large cabin that I'm sure acts as a much more effective wind scoop than our covers).

Having observed and thought about this, I think the collision problem was mainly caused by our keel providing lift in certain river flow situations, and the boat riding up above the mooring, driving her towards the next boat. Coupled with the next boat being a mobo and therefore not doing the same thing, they collided.

Well it may be too late but I'd speak to Matt if 8 foot is enough for you. I have amazing views. Or maybe swap with Bob if he wants a pontoon, but it just strikes me as odd that there are some shallow draft boats sitting on deep water and it's a crying shame as they are not used. Just hogging real estate.

It's unfortunately a bit late - I've agreed a deal with the marina. To be honest though, from what various people have said about being on the river pontoons with the swell from passing high speed vessels, I would prefer to be on a swinging mooring rather than the pontoons.

There are a few anchors in the marina that think it's fine and dandy making 10 knts SOG up river during the ebb dragging a big wake behind them through the pontoons quite oblivious to equal consideration. If I dragged a two foot wake through the marina they'd have kittens and be apoplectic with rage. I have absolutely no compunction to putting polite discourse to one side while explaining to them what complete berks they are in nothing but the finest salty invective. It usually gets the message across, at least I think it does, I dont tend to see them for a while.

No fear of that. Raggies in the marina quickly become marina queens. Longest voyage; pumpout and back. I'm not even sure they manage that.
