OK so i've 30m of chain and some rope on a normal electric windlass. I've removed the chain for the winter and had a gawk at the rope. The chain is tied to the rope with a normal shackle. A bit pointless because this cannot go through the anchor winch, and the guide from the windlass into the anchor well is quite small (wouldn't have been able to get through the guide hole)

So what do you use to connect your anchor chain/rope together? Pics would be great

he rope needs splicing to the chain, in such a way that it does not grow in thickness, taking a strand of rope through each link, for about six or eight inches.

Having said all that. I found, that over the years, the rope and chain rusted together snd finished up more like a mettal bar. So still would not come out.

I ended up getting 60 metres of chain off some one wanting rid of some on here.

Rope and chain is a real pain with your, and mine set up. Might be ok for the chuck it bregade.

Cheers fellas... not complicated at all *dizzy look on face*

I know that i'll be alright with 30m chain as I cruise on a shallow inland lake (would never be anchoring in more than 7-8m anyhow) but would like to have some rope as a reserve... will have a think about it. Thanks again

Well then. I'd fasten some thin rope to the end of the chain, with a small clip type link that will come out the locker, fasten the other end into the locker. Then when need be. Stick a big D hook and big rope on the chain, then release little rope.

Remembering of course to fasten the other end of big rope down first, so as to not loose the lot.

hlb - Good point. I have the end of the chain hooked onto the inside of the bow U-bolt. I also want to sort out some sort of attachment for tying between the cleat and chain for the season to take the strain off the winch when using the anchor (You know what I mean, don't know the proper term for it)

You use a Chain Hook attached to a suitable length of mooring rope. Jimmy Greens sell them with rope already spliced on.
