I don't know what your all grumbling about. We are in the EU and should apply all the rules including health and saftey. We should all wear hard hats when sailing, all winches should be covered by a cage, industrial leather gloves should be worn to save injury. Six foot netting and warning signs to be put up around the decks, scaffolding to be errected to go any higher than a foot and make sure you have been on all the courses first.

In France you see EU directives being applied all the time. I even saw a non french made car seven weeks ago, I am sure the marking up by 400 percent on British foods is perfectly fair. There boat building has never beeen subsidised by the goverment. I am so happy that to the rest of Europe a Flat playing field is verticle.

Ahem!!
Why do we still have red fuel oil? Surely its a crude way of tracing illegal use of farm fuel, heating oil etc. Many marine filling points just rely on the paperwork to distinguish between commercial and private users and use a common tank of fuel.

This is far too sensible a solution for the numpties in government to adopt.

Thank you David Cameron, you got a great deal for Britain, now they are going to be even harsher with us, but you really made an impression with your fellow party members! You really shown that you have got balls. No matter if WE pay the price.

That's a bit harsh:eek: Lib/Lab, are we?

Short sighted??
The Red diesel debate is interesting. It blows the usual ill informed assertion that only the UK applies EU rules right out of the water. It is us in the UK that are interpreting the rules to suit oursleves this time so it seems very two faced to carp on when someone else applies the rules rather than bowing to verted intrestes as the UK Goverment has done in the face of the RYA red diesel campaign.
Those little englanders who think our PM did the right thing last year should do some thinking. The Euro is already too big to fail. The Eurozone is already too big to fail (a bit like the Banks a couple of years ago) The pound is not too big to fail (remember the tory ERM debacle) We would be much better as part of a currency that is too big to fail.
Not all EU red tape is bad - our beaches would still be knee deep in sh*t wre it not for the EU regs.

Pink, green, white...

I think we should get the pink pound community involved-the EU is very keen on equal rights.

Seems like blatant discrimination against personal colour choice.

So, what you need is a narrow deep tank that can be dipped by Belgian Officials & fill it with a couple of gallons of white which you never need use.

So, just install a new hidden filler under the cockpit sole for the main (red) tank & have a 2m long filler pipe (sealed at the bottom) full of white under the existing filler cap for official inspection. Seemples really.

Now, where to put the hash, cocaine & Krugerands bought in Amsterdam?

What's all the fuss about? Belgium has a coastline of about 40 miles, just don't go there.

Sounds like an ideal UK/Belgium Anti-tourism campaign
"Belgium, just don't go there!"

Then add any number of images out of the minds of the "Sorry I haven't a clue" team...

Is it just the colour red that makes the Belgians see...um...red? For example if you treated your diesel with a bug biocide that made the fuel bright yellow, for example, would the Belgians accuse you of tax dodging?

How interesting. That just made me think of my boat that has two fuel filler caps. One is for the original fuel tank and no longer has a use (simply goes to a cut pipe on the inside) and the new one for the new fuel tank. Same goes with the fillers for the old and new water tanks.

Considering my boat has essentially four filling caps, do the authorities actually check the others or just rely on you pointing them to your "fuel" tank?

Does anywhere else in the world (outside the EU) dye its diesel? If so, what do the Belgians propose to do about them?

1. At the time, it was not illegal to sell red diesel in Belgium. Nor was it illegal to import it into Holland. It just couldn't be sold in Holland.

2. On another note: in Belgium you can legally buy duty free alcohol and tobacco for yourself and your crew - within reason. The only pre-condition is that is has to be consumed outside Belgian territorial waters.
UK yachts carrying duty free alcohol and fags - legally bought in Belgium - have had them confiscated by C&E upon arrival in the UK.

What's good for the goose, seems not to be good for the gander.
