Well these guys get a pasting here so I thought I'd report a success story.

I ordered a hand held GPS - OK, it took a week to come but that's no big deal. I was out when it was delivered (as is the way with people with these "job" things) and for the first time ever it was actually left next door to save me traipsing round the south of England to pick it up.

Anyway, I got

Magellan GPS 310 - £100 (£115 was the next best price I found, £130 some places)

PLUS

free case for the GPS
Free rigging knife (with pouch)
Free key ring with very handy light on it.

All in all I was pleasantly surprised. There was also a duplicate manual entirely in German in case I should suddenly forget my mother tongue and learn German over-night.

I had the MD on the phone the other day thanks to our friends here. He has agreed to send me a credit note in recompense for my poor service, no mention of value though. I'll report back if said note arrives.

Regards,

Peter

Likewise, a good news posting. I got a cheap set of oilies from them some time ago. At the start of the season, when I'd had them 10 months, they got washed, and fell apart, apparently due to a faulty batch of fabric. A call to Compass, sent 'em back and upgraded to a heavier set, which came in less than a week. They credited me with the current catalogue price, which is more than I'd paid.

No complaints at all about the service, and the oilies are great.

When Compass works, its great. If the system breaks down, it breaks down big time. Its main problem is that its run almost entirely from Germany with little decision making capability in UK.

Example: JRC 1500 radar Compass £1350, market price £860. They couldnt adjust price 'because the UK GM was on hols, and its a German decision'
