I'm two weekends into an intensive Day Skipper theory course and have now covered the business of applying both leeway and compass deviation to a plot. Does anybody know who I might contact re getting my boat's compass swung in Chichester Harbour and what I should expect to pay? Any help much appreciated.

Give Mr Robinson (Hamble) a ring on 02380 453 533. He is an exceptionally nice man whom I would trust to do such a job. He may know of others nearer to Chichester although you're not that far away.

Always worth checking first that the compass needs correcting. If the errors are under 5 deg, its hardly worth bothering. Under 10 degrees, making up your own deviation card will save £80 or so. 10 degrees or more - get the man in.
