Hey there PBO editorial / web manager dudes...

As a big fan of these forums I find myself constantly shuffling between "Reader to Reader" and "Scuttlebut" but can't really detect any difference. I also notice some duplicate posts from people either wanting max exposure or because they too don't know the difference.

Could we not have them combined ? I think it would make life a bit easier and save wear and tear on my mouse...

... or am I simply missing something??

what do others reckon?

Roger (I assume that is your name)

I do exactly the same thing as you and agree that it would be better, from our point of view, to have the two forums combined. Perhaps, however, there is an editorial reason for keeping them separate. A response from the editors would be interesting.

My vote is to keep them separate. Good if there could be some "education" though to enhance their individuality - editor to scratch any dual entries, messages to originators who select an inappropriate forum etc.

salt stains and grease stains

Rather thought Scuttlebutt was YM, while R2R was PBO.

So SB is for those who want to sail into the sunset, next stop Samarkand (or somewhere) while R2R is for those who are happiest in a blue boiler suit, hanging upside down in the engine space with a set of feeler gauges in one hand, a blow torch in the other and a ring spanner in their teeth.

Re: salt stains and grease stains

I think many of the R2R postees would argue about the 'grease-monkey' image !!!!
It used to be that PBO was regarded as the 'working-mans' more practical down-to-earth boating mag. YW was looked on as the Blue / White Ensign, 'lofty brigade' ..... seems that things are very muddied now, with no-one really knowing which is which !!!!

I would welcome a joining together into one ......... even invite the stink-pots forum in as well - now thats really opening up the debate !!!!!!

I\'d agree with Tony - keep them separate

But offer "diplomatic guidance" and "advise" people, in advance, of any duplicate postings being deleted.
We all know how paranoid members of these BBs are.

I am, personally, annoyed by those who merrily post exactly the same posting in both arenas, shows a careless and cavalier attitude.

Each started off with a totally different purpose, PBO for technical matters, YM for exchange of opinions, philisophical matters.

Join em up!!

It seems that most people are now into dual postings, and I would guess as the majority seem to post on both forums (some even seem to use the Stinkpot forum from time to time...myself included!). Perhaps now is the time for the powers that be to consider rationalising their portfolio of fora, and having one MEGA forum! Would anyone really miss SB??

Re: Join em up!!

Implication of which being some days you would have 40 or more threads arrive in one place. Elsewhere (motorboat forum one example) we are getting complaints about the volume of traffic now).

Mega forum would be easy for us, but are you really sure?

Re: Join em up!!

With the number of posts increasing all the time it is better to encourage users to segment their posts to the most appropriate forum, in general it seems to work the way it is. If you could make it less addictive that would be good! Or provide some on-line therapy!!

Re: Join em up!!

Keep them seperate Please "M,lud, but if possible indicate the forums most suitable for Queries/comments/waffle./stinkpots/blue water/classic.
at the moment it seems that pbo is the techie type .SB is general moans and groans.MBC is all of these, including baiting raggies.and dirty fingernail types.(but the best craic).classic is classic .and yachting world is in a world of its own.never lurked on the dingy sic. site so can not comment. But if it aint broke.dont fix it

It\'s a giggle this end of the bar

So Nige, 'cos your end of the bar's all boring and straight faced and everyone's playing dominos and no-one cracks a smile, whereas us stinkpotters are having a great party and laughing and joking, rather than come and join our party, you want to make us all come and sit around and be miserable with you lot? Is that the plan?

please keep them separate

....but apreciate the idea of giving guidance to those who post on inappropriate forums and the removal of multiple postings.

Life's s--t, then you die !!!!

I must admit that I am getting bored with some of the postings ..... not a lot of life in many of 'em !!!!

I like a good laugh, I like a good ribbing, I like a good posting that I can really get my controversial teeth into ..... glad that I made this one more interesting by prompting your response from the Diesel Brigade !

Re: It\'s a giggle this end of the bar

Cor a rag 'n stickie with a sense of humour? Nah not possible. All you long faced lot at your end of the bar want to do all day is moan about the smelly diesel boats, and what colour flag to have. Personally I've got three flagholder things on the stern of my boat. I have the Euro flag in the middle the blue one I knicked form a boat in Cowes on the left side and and a pretty white one on that came off HMS Belfast on the right side. Looks real good, but nowhere for the red one. Do you think it would be overkill to fly it from the front of the boat?.

If you're getting a bit bored on buttscuttle you can come and join us on MBY you know. See if you can wind anyone up. We don't bite. Well we do but its all done "in the BEST passible taste".
