Hi
I’m a newbie on here and would appreciate some info.
Can anyone tell me about a Colvic Sunquest 42. As far as I’ve found, it doesn’t exist. What am I missing?
TIA

The up market Sunquest range was usually a hull moulded by Colvic on a design by John Bennett. Hull form was very similar to the 37 and 38 from Princess during the 1980s. The topsides updated as the years went by and the swim platfrom moulded in to the hull.
Smaller flybridge hulls were marketed as a Suncruiser 34 , both Flybridge/Sedan and Tent boat versions were produced.
Later Princess hulls were designed by Olinski to better handle the more powerful engines becoming available and hence a higher top speed.
Most were fitted out to owners spec by a professional boat builders but some were home built and the interior finished by the buyer. Had a wide range of engines but rarely ended up powered by Volvo Penta.
The claimed LOA of any particular hull seemed to be variable, the 42 sounds like the 43 in most adverts,at some time in the past swim platforms suddenly became part of the length over all.
Think the Sealord came from the same stable.
Search for Colvic.

From memory the ones we went to look at had been fitted out with high quality joinery but the owners had tended to go for the somewhat dated decor/style of previous decades.
The interior cabin volume was not so efficiently used compared to the Princess and Fairline rivals. However access to vital equipment such as sea cocks and fuel filters did seem better on the Colvics.

Sorry it won't answer your question, but if you're interested there was this article recently on a newly home built Colvic 44 Sunquest:

I always admired the lines of the 43 as a kid, there was one being home built in our marina in the early 90's, Bray. Not sure there was a 42, but below is listed a 40 (which looks like a 43 to me). As Oldgit says, Colvic's were project boats, so I'm sure there's a lot of variation across the range.

The one here at Bangor Marina is a '44 and a very attractive boat I must admit. Let me know if you'd like a piccy...

Do you mean one of these:-

I was down at a friends house and his neighbour bought this about 8 years ago.
I think he is going to get round to doing something with it --- sometime.

Still looks a smart boat to me.

Purchased a similar type of homebuilt a few years ago from Boats UK.
The builder had spared no expence on the project spending probably 3-4 times the money it would have cost him to buy something off the shelf. ........and it took 30 years to finish the job.
The manhours spent on the build must have astronomcal.
It moved house 3 times as well .
