I think I would have been tucked up behind the Holy isle if I was over there today.

Egods, I'm not on the boat tonight. This is an evil place in a strong NE. Got some boat work tomorrow so commuting via Calmac from Brodick. Get Ready for Friday & another Calmac back to the boat Friday AM.

Graeme

and if we're having a "first of the season" peeing up the wall contest.:D. I did my first gennaker hoists last w/end. Single hander racing dinghy mind you :)

You're whimp! a reef in only 11 knots of wind :D

Cheeky sod - as you know full well that was boat speed - about ten minutes earlier we we were trying to hit 9 knots, then after the windward mark she just took off. It was strange because off Kip the wind was gusting to over 30 knots, yet the sea was quite flat.

Yeh I guessed that. What were you on? Sounds like great conditions.

Apologies to whoever I mistakenly posted to last night.

I'm afraid I won't be at the meet on Friday. I got a phonecall last night to say that the boat had been bouncing in the NE'rly and the o/b had come off and was hanging by the lanyard.

I got another call this morning to say the outboard had gone overboard. With no engine the boat's going nowhere.

Maybe next time.

I don't think we 'll need to deal with 30kts..

Looking promising for a reach towards Tarbert / Portavadie (eek Lochranza?? ) on Sat & similar on Sunday in reverse? Via Kyles or the outside of Bute? :)

QUIZ !!!!!

I have now got the quiz ready.
We have a mountain of cakes to sell - thanks to my gorgeous daughter who was baking half the night.
We have some superb raffle prizes.
Please note that you WILL need some kind of writing implement for the quiz - I am providing paper on which to write, but haven't got enough pens/pencils to go round.
It should be a great weekend - even the weather is looking good today!

Great Weekend!

Great weekend sailing with two of my ‘Old-Submarine’ Oppo’s. :)
What a mixture of ‘Rusty Nails’, Rum & Scrumpy! ….. if I molested anybody … no apologies because I must have been a little under the influence.
Had to have the Rendang before appearing at the CWC Scuttlebutt Bar, plus the ‘Fleet-Boat’ & ‘Diesel-Dits’ just had to be drowned in Rum :D .... so my ‘dry locker’ became my guitar stowage which wasn’t touched all weekend.
The sailing was reasonable for this early in the season until we left the shelter-ish of Arran where the Sea-State became ROUGH with gusts generating a frequency in the rigging of ‘please God DON’T let anything break or I’m calling out the Lifeboat in Hz’. :( With waves covering the foredeck, washing over the coachroof, under and above the sprayhood and occasionally down into the cabin! …. just ask Doc as he was goffered down below! :(

Great to meet some new-ish faces at the Muster & looking forward to seeing you all in September .... or anytime before! :)

To all who expressed concerns for the fate of Farwell - thanks.
Especially to Ian (Spyro) of Shearwater who diverted to make sure we were OK.
On top of the damage to both the hull deadlight and the pontoon at CWSC, the weekend was plagued by fuel problems.
We scuttled off to Largs after the quiz as there was no chance of moving to the other side of the pontoon for shelter. In the morning the damage looked severe, but on the plus side there was no sign of rust in the armature which had been exposed, so I sealed the area with thickened epoxy and off we went, motoring to keep the repair out of the water until the epoxy set.
We did get a good sail up the West coast of Bute and up Loch Fyne. When we were just off Tarbert I fired up the motor... which slowed and died just as I got the genoa rolled away.
Down below I found the sight-glass in the primary filter was very muddy looking. I quickly drained it and bled the system, but the motor was going nowhere. I got into Tarbert by plumbing the separate Eberspacher diesel tank into the engine feed.
What I found was the Port diesel tank was contaminated. Switching to the St'bd tank got us clean fuel.
We headed on Sunday morning for Portavadie for more fuel and got across the loch just for the engine to die again. Air in the fuel line was the problem this time. Bleeding the system flattened the batteries so a call was put out to the marina and any vessels in the area.
I just got the mainsail up to try and enter the marina when a rib came out and pulled us in.
A quick battery charge and a diesel top-up had us moving again.
A brilliant sail up the West Kyle and we were moored up at Colintraive for about 17:00. The engine has not given any more trouble, although I will not be able to use the Port tank until I can clean it out.
A job I am not looking forward to. I feel like gypping every time I smell diesel now.

.

Glad to hear you quickly got sorted out. I tried to get you on the radio again after you had spoken to the ferry but couldn't raise you so headed over but as you know by the time I got there you were under tow.
