I'm a bit bored and missing get out on the water so how about a discussion about the next meet.
I propose Fri 27th April, a bit later that usual but maybe a chance of it being a bit warmer. Usual place, usual suspects?

Count me in - although I might not be able to afford it being accidentally retired. I will probably be on Capricious with at lease FullCircle pulling all the ropes as I lie back and issue orders!

Guilty as charged your honour!
I do hope to attend but I may be wanting to swap a bottle of liquid necter for a berth for the wk end myself as HB might not be ready:( Dont all rush to offer:D

I only got authorisation from my insurers yesterday to proceed with all the repairs by the relevent companies.
Incidently Hummingbird will have a whole new mast, rigging, boom, roller reefing system.
The mast will be a selden double spreader rig, apparently much lighter but as strong as a heavier single spreader rig.
The question now is will it be ready for an april launch.
Sorry for hijacking the thread.

Ps just noticed the date on Spyro's post, HB might be ready for then, hopefully.

John, did you cut and paste that reply from your reply in september?
A man of few words.:D

Well spotted Eamonn :)
If you don't get HB ready in time I'm sure I'll squeeze you in.
Good to hear you've got the go ahead for the repairs.
Can you manage a new set of sails out of the insurance to match the new rig ;)

Thanks for the offer Ian I appreciate that, as long as you dont get the pink nightie out!:D:D:D

I am too honest to try for a new set of sails.
Besides, sails are only covered if they are damaged while hoisted on a rig that sustains damage while sailing.

That's great news to hear. I guess once its all sorted and your back in the water, then at least you can derive some satisfaction in having some new kit. I hope the repairs go smoothly.

WRT the Clyde Scuttlebutt Cruise, they sound good fun and are always tempting , however without fail, and again this time, it corresponds with my shift at work. Maybe one day.

I'd like to think we'll be fixed and in the water by then!

Good news from Eamonn, that'll be some mast - twin spreader, keel stepped, does that entail new shroud plates as well? Somebody better make him a present of a tension guage or it'll still be 'S' shaped by the time scuttlebutt comes along!

PC could not be any more laid back, and usually lets others order for him....:D

I find myself in a quandary here, as another Northern Olympic SailDrinking event happens the following weekend, and I cannot afford both.

Thought they are meant to be S shaped anyway?
Deck plates would be asking a bit much, maybe should have tried for new bigger engine.:D
Thankfully the mast is deck stepped Bill, saves all that water comming in.
I will now have a boom that matches the mast colour.

Spring Scuttlebutt 2012

Mistral would hope to be there, but as always it depends whether work rears it's ugly head. I tend to be quiet over Easter but that is early this year.

As mentioned by FC, the following weekend is the May holiday which for those who follow other fora, and who cruise N of the Crinan Canal means CC2012.

It's great to hear that HB will be repaired. Hope that all the finances work out, and that the sails fit the shiney new twin spreader mast, and that she's ready for SB.

I'm hoping the Pontoon will be repaired by then. Anyone who was there last time will remember it had come apart at the seams. I was over there last week and from the land it looked like it was also broken on the long stretch that is parallel to the beach.

Is a quiz required this time? If so I can do one if nobody else wants to.
For the Saturday does anybody fancy Portavadie for a change? This would mean taking beer and stuff with us as the only bar there is not cheap.

Portavadie have done us proud in the past so that's a good call. It leaves Tarbert fresh for the September, music festival cruise. Frankly, Tarbert doesn't wake up until after the Scottish Series anyway. An alternative - and only if the weather is favourable - might be Otter Ferry.
Eammon - it goes without saying you will be welcome on Farewell if Hummingbird still has no wings.

I thought the Hummingbird was an Elizabethan with a different top?
The Lizzies in TCC are keel-stepped.

Yes Bill, the hull is from the altered E30 mould, which had a retrouse transom, then David Thomas designed a new superstructure with a deck stepped mast and compression post to the keel, she probably has the same aspect ratio as the E30 but, all other spec seems to be taken from the E30 anyway.
Glad there is not another 6ft to the mast!
I met a guy in the summer with a E30, think he was from TCC, sure he said his son was a member of GalGeal in Govan, dident get a chance to have a look around her as I was about to leave the moorings at Millport when he hooked up.

Thanks Ash.
