Clevis pin vs nut and bolt to secure forestay to stemhead.

With a decent blow. torch, the sort you have in the galley for your creme brûlée, and having the space to use it soon releases red Loctite.

But it will also destroy the Nyloc nut, or at least the Loc portion.

Most people use split pins, Nyloc nuts, red Loctite and Rogers list of cecurement devices without a second thought. You really need to think why your application is so difficult to resolve. :)

I was mowing one of the paddocks this evening and a pin held in by a spring clip disappeared and I was dragging the mower by one lift arm. It was rough going and I put it down to the vibration.

The R shaped spring clips are forever getting lost of my Lawn Tractors .... they are used to allow quick servicing of the cutter bed etc - but are a real pain. But it helps to always have the round closed end FORWARD ...... sounds daft - but think about it ...

My Mini Tractor uses the typical tractor style pins with spring locking loop ... not flimsy ones !! These ones really do need a good hand to flip the sprung loop over to remove the pin ... if I could find in size smaller to fit my Lawn Tractors - I would use those.

There are two positions on an R clip an intermediate one that seems like the correct position and the final loop of the R. If you push it all the way into the loop I don't see how it could work its way back as it is free to move but secures the peg.

Yes but then depending on the gauge of metal size used - can be a real pain to get clip back to designed position to then extract. When pushed through to the loop - I've had to use a 'bar' to lever them out ..
