I have just bought an Archimedes 14hp outboard, in perfect order. A friend saw this and thought it would be better suited to a classic boat owner rather than my intention of thrashing it to death on my rib. Its in near perfect condition and really looks like it has about a seasons use. Anyone have any thoughts, ideas?

Im not even sure its a classic! would like advice though, does seem a shame to abuse it if it is more suitable for a period craft

IIRR, they did not have a great rep, and being quite old, must be in such good nick because it was not used?? Try it for a while then, if OK, put it on Boats and Outboards.

Early example of Volvos failed attempt to get in to the outboard market. Started late 60s iirc as the Archimedes, became Archimedes Penta, then Volvo Penta. Rubbish motors that had neither power nor reliability, and were quite thirsty. Not surprised it has had little use....

Thanks for the info, not really a glowing reference, still I know how much my current engine is used on a modern boat so will assume a classic would get less hours, it looks right, is serviced and goes like a dream at the mo.
Get the feeling I will just use it as its there.
