Hello,
If you have experience with the Christ Craft 232 Crowne, let me know.
Is the RPM meter exact?
What propeller did you fit? Was your engine redone? Is the engine perfect?
Is your RPM also 3200 when getting in plane? ( with 15.5 X 15 alu prop )
Is your max RPM trimmed also 4000 when half fueled, half water, 2 persons?
Is the engine also the OMC cobra 5.8L V8 285 HP?

The reason why I'm after this info is that I like to compare the overall specs before deciding for another prop. Many thanks for your info : Ben

I've no experience of your particular boat, but from what you write, and from my experience on boats of similar size/power I would suggest the following:
-the boat should plane at about 1800rpm
-cruise at 3200rpm
-max rpm should be about 4500

I'm puzzled by the 3200 rpm planing and 4000rpm top-out as one seems to contradict the other in that a too low pitch would require higher revs to get on plane, but it would also give a higher max rpm. Try a few different props if you can get a supplier to agree to it. Also thinkg about adding a hydrofoil (eg Doel fin) to the anti-cavitation plate to assist in getting on plane at lower rpm.

First of all thank you for your reply. The Chris Craft 232 Crowne is a havy boat and another user in the states almost has the same results as I do:
start to plane +/- 3200 rpm
3300-3400 rpm keeps it well in plane +/- 22 Kts
w.O.T. half fuel half water + 2 persons +/- 4000 RPM +/- 27 Kts
The engine specs W.O.T. 4000 - 4400 we have the info that these engine does'nt like at all high rpm's ( OMC cobra based on FORD 5.8 L V 8).
In fact we like to compare these figures with other owners in order to evaluate the condition of our boat.
If you have info, it's more then welcome
Kind regards

Dear Arthur,
What I am exactly after is the info on how others boats of the same model with the same engine behave.
At this time I found somebody in the states who's boat behaves as mine, he also likes to make contact with other owners and share info.
Kind regards
Ben Eeman

chris craft 232 crowne

I own a 1991 chris craft 232 crowne. the boat came with a 15x15 3 blade alum. prop. top rpm was 4100. top speed with half gas, half water, 2 people was 38 mph. I put on a new holly 650cfm carb, performance plugs and cables, 10" K+N filter with cone, (sorry I can't remember what they call it) new cap, rottor and points(points are huge. don't forget to set the dwell) and the and best thing was get the prop designed based on boat size, weight, lengh, motor size and hp.. the right size of prop is a stainless, 4 blade, 14x141/4 you will not belive the power increase... way quicker out of the hole, better top end, way faster, end way, way beter fuel economy. I am now very, very close to 50mph. This boat rocks!!!
Good Boating!

Hey Ben,

I have a 1992 Chris Craft Crowne 232 and I'm experiencing the exact same thing you are. The boat is very heavy and takes a lot to get out of the hole. My speed when on some chop is 22kts and thats +/- 3200-3400rpm. When its smooth as glass I can get it up to 35kts with the same rpm.

I also have a hydrofoil and some added weight in the bows anchor hatch. Still have issues getting onto plane. Takes about a 50secs and when its fully loaded its a good minute. I'm having my shop now put on a new prop with a smaller pitch, was a 17 and they want to try a 16 for a 3 blade stainless steel.
