As others have said - it's up to you to exit correctly, even if that means hanging around for a day or two until the office is open.
 
I doubt as your anchor drags or you have another emergency finding a remote French customs official will be top of list of priorities . Surely with what might be termed an unplanned departure many might consider that missing an exit stamp is of little importance. I can see if leaving a major port you would obviously be able to go to the marina office but I had in mind a more remote location.

As I said the onus is on the skipper to plan his itinerary to facilitate a check out if he wishes to return in the future. Remote location won't wash when you are asked where your departure stamp is when you next arrive and your name is on the computer as an overstayer. Your choice.

You need to plan in leaving from a Port of Entry or proxy site - so in that case you'd just move from your remote anchorage a bit earlier.
 
Last year, in Brittany, we found that customs at St Brieuc and Roscoff were helpful and friendly. They, and Brest customs, were quite happy for arrival/departure using any port - as long as you went, promptly, to a port of entry by bus or taxi.
However, in these electronic times, it is not beyond the wit of man to introduce a paperless system. We can be racked using AIS, so why cannot this be used?

Not everyone has AIS though. Also, AIS tracks the vessel, but it is the crew and passengers who have to check-in and out

How do you give your fingerprints and retina scan remotely? With the EES start in September, then I reckon it will become more panful than it is now, unless each major marina buys the relevant EES terminal.

Then next year, you'll have to do the same to enter or exit the UK.
 
Yes I can see if you are tucked up in cherbough and planning to leave the next morning a checkout that night at the marina office isn’t that onerous however I had in mind more the situation where the vessel calls in unexpectedly at a port and say spends the night on a buoy for crew to rest or to fix gear etc. I’m sure there must be many situations where prudence merits pulling into a port despite best laid plans , let’s say travelling from the Channel Islands etc. If there are electronic devices on each berth or carried by the helpful marina staff in their rib clearly this process can be as simple as handing over the credit card /scanning etc but I just am still puzzled as to how it works for lesser places I guess that visitors might pull into ?
Are Uk marina say in Portsmouth or cowes busy gearing up for electronic scanning devices ? What about closer ports such as the Kent coast which seem to attract many visitors from Europe?

The technology exists. On my old iPhone7, introduced in 2016, I can use thumbprint recognition. It is not a massive leap to do each finger. On my new iPhone13, I can use facial recognition. Going to the US over Christmas, we used VeriFLY and could check in online using facial recognition. The ways are there. It is a matter of will.

VeriFly isn't connected to the US database though, nd I doubt they'll llow random phones to connect to the EU database either.
 
What people are trying to do is get a country to work around their personal requirements, it doesn't work like that. There will be designated ports of arrival and departure and possibly some of the larger marinas but highly unlikely that the smaller ones will set up to process arrivals and departures, people will be required to arrive and leave from designated places. I suspect that for UK nationals leaving and arriving in the UK it will be like pre EU days drop a form in a box or nowadays an email for both to advise BF or customs.
