Cheap 2003 Sealine F42/5

I was going to buy one last year, glad I didn't it too was a money pit, leaks everywhere , the 42/5 is a great looking boat but stuck together with poor sealants that just don't hold together. Best avoided in my view.

when I first read the details I thought the brokers name was stain! stand corrected was Stan!
A lot of boat for the money provided vat paid and no finance to clear. b Great benefit of fresh water use only.
 
Very little if anything in the way of electronic toys fitted.. cannot see a chart plotter fitted on the helm position and no dome fitted to the radar arch.. VP depth and speed gauges only maybe.. may be the picture but looks to be a fair amount of oil / crud laying in the base of the engine bay too
 
New 2016 raymarine nav is what? £2k for an A95 plotter on the fly and a 4kw scanner. Ipad at lower helm so no more double plotter. Fit it yourself is an easy job and you get the latest kit rather than 2003 vintage stuff. Most people buying an 03 boat would likely be considering new nav stuff anyway, and this way you haven't got the problem of legacy holes in the dash. I almost wish the ferretti had less nav screens as I'm not sure how to patch the holes.

Yep, needs a bloody good tidy. If it were a tri cab I'd have been kicking myself a bit but it's only a twin cab (thankfully).

I agree the absence of nav kit is not an issue. Better none than an old big clunky plotter that leaves a very big holes to deal with when removed.

Possibly a good project but I dare say the hours run will also be reflected in wear and tear on the interior cabinets which is never fully evident in photographs.
 
Cameron House hotel did operate this boat for charters mainly lasting an hour, I reckon this one would have finished it's service around 2008, presumably owned privately since. I'm guessing this as I was on its replacement around 2008 during a stay at the hotel in 2008, a new 42/5 also called Celtic Warrior which they still operate. Along with my family we enjoyed a nice one hour cruise, inspiring enough to buy a boat 3 weeks later after about 15 years being boat-less.

The condition and hours would be enough to put me off but surely not a bad buy for someone keen to work on it.

If it has spent it's entire life on Loch Lomond then it's never had any need for nav gear, agree with Whitelighter, 2K would sort this, most boats this age would be ripe for a nav upgrade anyway.
 
Musty smell, signs of water damage in the forward cabin... storm damage maybe from one of the hoolies up there, most recent being Jan of this year. I'd want to dig into the recent history of the boat. Always sceptical of a bargain if it's clear something being sold is worth more than its being advertised for. You have to ask why?
 
Oh I think it's got issues and as seen here the market wants shines clean examples so in its current state it's not being sold for less than its worth. But look beyond the cosmetics and do reletjvy little work you could bring it back
 
The one I was after had series issues basically the same as this one.
Plenty of fresh water in the bilges which had trashed parts of the engines requiring new mounts and endless hours of rust removal.
Front and side screens all leaking.
Saloon side windows leaking.
All linings and upholstery require replacing in side and forward cabin.
Galley top scratched and split due to it coming away from the structure of the boat, quite common I'm told.
The list went on! Better buy and older Princess or Fairline for the same money.

Whilst I agree with your last comment, I definitely think someone ought to buy it and do a refurb thread. We need something to read over the winter now that Vas's boat nears completion!
 
I don't know why all the criticism of this particular boat, if you want a mint boat obviously you dont want this one and at the same time you will have great difficulty finding a mint one at that price.
 
Its not criticism, its a healthy debate to establish its likely true value. If it needs lots of engine work, new soft furnishings, nav gear, potentially woodwork repairs, and we know the hours are high, then it may not be the bargain that some may think.

Would be pretty dull if we can't discuss these things.
