Same problem with me. We will not let retailers list import games on Gameindie .com, for fear of upsetting the UK distributors and publishers. They have bigger lawyers than me.

Have we highjacked this thread enough now? But I have introduced some Channel Islander chappie to this thread as he was posting before looking.

The good news is that the internet has made global pricing transparent, and consumers are more aware of the price differentials.

Yes buying GPS plotters in the USA is an excellent and well proven source at prices upto 50% less than UK and that's after paying VAT and Duty. The UK channel will try and frighten you about CE marks, but that's a load of rubbish designed to assist market distortion and protect UK distributors from www competition. The $ exchange rate is terrific at the moment. You can save $1000s of a dual station setup with radar, etc. Quality brands like Raymarine and Garmin are the same hardware and quality, and have world wide manufacturers warranty. Boats especially yachts do tend to move around the world afterall. Buying a top of the range setup in the UK is plain stupid if you can, and you CAN get the same gear in the USA for anything between 100% and 50% less! Especially as it has a world wide warranty as Garmin and Raymarine do! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Stuff the local rip offs /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif The internet is a great leveler

PS: VHF sets is a slightly different issue as most EU licenseing authorities only issue ships certs for CE marked sets, but again it is balony to suggest that US models are not up to scratch. Eg: ICOM M71 in Europe, but M72 in USA - Same sets and they can be switched between International and USA frequencies in their setup menus - again market protection balony.

CE is a racket - balony and anti-compeditive designed to protect distribution channels and nothing else.

I'm curious to know where you get the 100% discount , I'll shop there anyday , but seriously , the VHF setup ( so I understand ) is because the US have some different frequencies to ours so whilst they don't seem to have any direct and immediate problems , it could be that if you need to call a certain marina , their channel may not be available on a US set . As I understand it that is . But thanks to info from here I'll definately be making a few replies to those selling the stuff over the web , I'd be mad not to
