Whatever you do don't even begin to think of scanning a wee bit of one of your own Admiralty charts . . .

I used to use a scanned and faded to watermark section of an old (1982) Clyde chart showing part of Arran as a background for some tables on my website.

The threatening e-mails and phone calls I received from UKHO were astonishing . . .

Yes Droggie is very

aggressive in his protection of copyright.

And I'm afraid it's no good using US charts, he claims them for his own.

You could try asking him nicely and if it's for charity or for personal use (ie not available in the public domain)

I have in the past used Bloc Marine charts, for personal use, but this also infringes copyright

RYA or DIY

How about contacting the RYA, they may be able to help.

Afterall they do have their own NOT FOR NAVIGATION chartlets provided with their Yachtmaster text books, and their Chartlets for Practice Navigation - which have a very interesting relationship between the English coast and the Channel Islands.

Alternatively sketch your own - I`ve noticed that in PBO they include peoples sketches illustrating navigational points in articles.
