Information for all traffic in the Western Solent tomorrow morning.
At approximately 1130hrs a group of 16 swimmers, protected by a fleet of 10 safety boats, will set off in two groups of eight from Hurst Spit and swim across the Solent to the Isle of Wight. Their route will be as follows:-
Swimmers will swim south east along the shore line of Hurst Spit using the main safety boat as their guide.
Having reached the end of Hurst Spit swimmers will continue in a south easterly direction across the shortest part of the Solent swimming towards Fort Victoria. The authorities will be notified when the swimmers enter the main channel of the Solent.
Having crossed the majority of the Solent the swimmers will swim east along the coast until they reach Norton Beach. The authorities will be notified when the last group of swimmers have crossed the main Solent channel.
Swimmers will be ushered ashore by their respective safety boat crew's. Swimmers will not be reboarding their boats and will not swim as far as the harbour mouth and the Wightlink ferry route.
Wish them luck. They are raising money for the RNLI and Macmillan Cancer Support.
