Yes, B/W is almost certainly +ve. If you want to confirm, dip the live output wires in a jam-jar of salt water. A stream of bubbles will form on the negative.

only ever came across this once before - my (first) stereo speaker cables. but the black/white was the negative in that instance. Would be intersted to know your result CSail.

Was it an MG with Lucas electrics? :D Lucas is the reason beer is warm in UK!:D

Stick the ends into a piece of cut potatoe, the area around one wire will go black - but I can't remember which one so not much use I'm afraid.
No doubt somebody will know. :D
