I have to agree with lakesailor, aitch. You are right in as much as MWBs (Manky Wee Boats) are definitely a subgroup on here but I've never felt that that also made us an underclass. Of course, you can meet plonkers anywhere who think that the rest of humanity is in some sort of underclass but that's their problem.

The sailing's the thing!

Manky Wee Boats - Loud and Proud!

It must be several days since I last posted a picture. Have you seen this one before? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Telescopic fishing rods ...

Out here in Latvia .. a Selstar 6 ft rod is about 2 quid ... it telescopes down to about 15" .... but obviously once rings are pulled off and the sections super-glued into extended position etc.

2 litre bottle of beer WITH beer about a quid ....

Expanding foam as per builders use - more than enough for about 10 floats .... about 2 quid...

rest is easy peasy ...

You are both probably right and I'm just fed up because things aren't going too well. Bad enough that I have just had to sell my old Albacore, which meant a lot to me. I'll have nothing to sail on a week to week basis now until Spring when my even older wooden Streaker will be sailable. I'm too far away from any decent water to keep the little Seasafe Dandy so I only get to sail her in the Summer.

I like Silkie. She looks a great little cruiser and she has a good name. It was the name I gave my first Albacore. I like boats with a nice sheerline and she looks the part.

Glad to know there are others on the list with not much cash to fund their sailing.

My boat may be old, made of wood, mabe slow, but I like it, and I know how to sail her, I know how to fix everything, I enjoy helping people new to boating,But I can't understand WHY people go out and buy the biggest boat they can afford ??
Than have a load of problems because they don't know what there doing /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Wot's MAGRPB.

Haven't you realised THIS forum is nothing to do with the size of your boat. In fact it has hardly anything to do with boats on about 50% of the postings/threads !! (Bombay Ducks indeed !). It has a fair element of humour, mostly schoolboy level, and the OCCASIONAL thread on something vaguely yachty. It also has the odd thread on what someone is doing/done sailing-wise, slightly more intereting than nothing at all.

My first reaction was to suggest there might be something of interest to you at Y&Y, but revisiting that site made me withdraw the idea.

Just keep posting here, peeps dont give a toss about your boat, just what you post.

PS Wayfarer has its own 'cruising' forum, which seems much more interesting than the racing forum. Doesn't Albacore have something similar, if you want to be chatty with similar boat-owners?

Yep, this i'm afraid (as Jack Nicholson said) is just about as good as it gets !

Re: Very topical .... I won\'t post this now....

Having wandered into a couple of swinderies, looked at dan buoys and been underwhelmed by the price and quality of same, I was minded to make one.

I made one up for man-overboard exercises. Small float, weight on the bottom and a visible part consisting of a sleeve from an old oilie jacket and a stuffed rubber glove sticking up in the air. Really concentrates the mind!

Mind you, it's obviously worried some of the boats passing us!
