Think I had enough of my old md32 on shaft drive and want to change it.
I want to change it for similar horse power but have no clue what to look for. Has anyone changed one out for something else.
My boat is a fjord 27. Also needs to be realistic price

Thanks john

you need to be precise about what you dont like about the set up.
if it runs, may be better to change the boat ?

Engine is still running but wouldn’t be able to sell it the way it is. Also if I go and buy a new boat the engine in that is likely to be 30/40 years old.

What speed does it run at I suspect that as it’s still running it’s under 3000 rpm in which case from memory it’s about 75 hp (small horses though)

I’ve never really been over 2500rpm as it smokes and starts to get hot over that. It’s meant to be about 100hp

The last 41 I sold made 4 k and would replace your engine quite easily , to be fair if you don’t need the power there are other alternatives that are smaller and lighter .

Which gearbox do you have? There is some worth in the old unit I would think!
The 32 was good when revs are kept down but the alloy head caused no end of trouble if not torqued down on a regular basis it was way ahead of the alternatives at the time! But I doubt it ever produced 100 hp at shaft output.
Now the Kad32 (no communality except the paint) would be a nice replacement

Spoke to a guy with a tmd30 for sale anyone had one of theses or know anything about them?

Cheers[/QUOTE

It will be getting on now and if you want to keep the boat it might be a short term solution

Depending on what alterations you would have to make it could work out
Again what gearboxes are you talking ?
