Chain re-galvanising

Which will presumably be much the same bother and cost whether it's 5m or 100m?
It's also possible to join lengths of chain.

I daresay there's also a minimum order price operating in there, which is scarcely unusual.
I am not up to date with regalvanizing costs but when I had my two chains done by Wedge the cost was roughly 1/4 to 1/3 of the cost of new chain. The big advantage is that whereas the original galvanizing lasted three years the regalv is now ten years old. Starting to get a bit rusty in places but ok for this year at least.

+1 on that mine was about half price of new about 6 years ago and still get good. The quantity seemed to be the key but I would certainly not expect 8 m to be economic!

The minimum order is by WEIGHT not length, for Wedges. I got two other forumites to join with me a few years ago to make the minimum. I then changed boats and had enough chain on the new one , plus my CQR to make the minimum on my own.
Cost about two thirds of new BUT - and its a big but - the galvanising is way way thicker than you get on new chain.
Lenthths are just joined with some light twisted wire (like thin welding rod); they do it for you on the spot.

This winter it was only slightly cheaper to have 30 metres of 10mm regalvanised than buy new - a very significant part of the cost was transport to/from Birmingham from Cornwall. Bought new in the end and saved a couple of better bits of the old chain for a few years worth of mooring strops.

A group re-galv was organised a couple of years ago by one of the forumites here, who works for a galvanising company. It worked out at £25 for my 40m of 8mm chain. I have some stuck links but these are slowly working out every time I anchor, and the galv thickness/quality is excellent. I was very grateful to him for organising it as it was far cheaper than buying new chain.
