one of our gps aerials is mounted on the pushpit with its cable running through a deckgland to the interior of our boat and ultimately to plotter and vhf. Lost signal and having checked the nmea connections near the units they all seemed fine but eventually found that the outer insulation of the cable has chafed through near the pushpit mounting (around 12" away from gps aerial) with at least a couple of the very thin nmea wires chafed through where the outer insulation has been damaged. Any guidance please on how to reconnect these wires especially as they are in the open?

thankyou

NMEA has no real 'energy' going through - so its easy to splice the cables back together ...

I've used telephone cable ... as its similar light strand wire ...

Once re-joined - I suggest self amalgamating tape or heat shrink if you can get it to pass over plug or whatever .. to protect from chafe.

I would try remove the rough bit causing the chafe in the deck gland ..
