Well Mr N Calder seems to think this CAPI2 is the most wonderful technology on the planet, and I must admit to being a fan of X10 at home, which is similar in that you don't need switches connected on dedicated curcuits to the loads that they control. However, like so many of us, I don't have the dosh or the forthcoming major project to strip out everything and use CAPI2. BUT there are lots of automotive RF switches around that allow you to trip a relay or similar, and I'd like to do a few jobs like having tricolor, anchor, streaming and deck lights, but I've only got 1 power line up the mast. I'd also like to install cockpit lights that I could control from the cockpit or below, the list goes on ....
Has anyone done anything like adding a new switch set and a remote working on RF / Other?
What ideas have we got to save on more wire everywhere?

Nothing at all wrong with a 2 pole switch. Everything else is that way. BUT the potential of these systems is temendous, and could simplify the knitting behind my switch panel (curtesey of Jeanneau).
For example; can you turn both your tricolour and your steaming lights on at the same time? This stops you.
Can you have a master on/off for all cabin lights and independent light switches without rewiring? THis way you can
And my current favourite - I dont want to drill any more holes at the base of my mast, but I do want some more lights up there. This would let me do it.

But I'd also be interested in modern thinking about wireless networking of instruments. NMEA between binnacle and nav station and skippers bunk seems to be a bit archaic for todays world...
