Canvas cover companies

A word of caution. Be very specific with your wants and needs when you order your cockpit cover. I wasn't and ended up with a perfectly well constructed cover that didn't quite give full standing room. It would benefit from more window area and won't fold in situ for a quick day sail. It has to be completely removed. I have 12 studs screwed into my gel coat when I would have preferred different fastenings. I cannot blame the manufacturer but I am dissatisfied in practice and can't wait for it to wear out so I can order a replacement. I won't make the same mistake next time. Thanks. Alan

Good advice.

With a bespoke canopy you can decide where you want your windows, zips, roll ups, inside pockets (for keys and phone), areas that may need reinforcing, canopy height, width, colour, which fasteners you prefer, quick release fittings or not, whether you want your cockpit attached to sprayhood by velcro, zip or fasteners, do you want your cockpit enclosure to fold back onto a frame, (pop up and down).....options are endless and there are loads more. Chat to others with similar boats who have enclosures and you may pick up advice and recommendations. Obvious the designer should advise on various options and have the end say if it is doable or not but dont be afraid to ask for strange or different requests.

One little idea I always made in my cockpits / sprayhoods was a pocket stitch into the inside of the sprayhood for keys and phone to be kept. Customers loved it

If you use a company with 3d cad capabilities for a bespoke design you will be able to tweak and approve the design before its put into production. It's often the case that the design that is put in front of the customer is approved straight off. This is because after taking a brief, using cad we are able to visualise the brief giving the best possible design, and put cad renders in front of the customer for approval.
A lot of companies now have databases online with photos of completed projects. We at Tecsew now have approx 5,000 pictures of completed projects online on our website, and hold further photos of completed projects in our database.
This enables prospective customers to see standard products in detail and is a great resource for ideas when looking for ideas.
Visit our website and check out the boat cover gallery, many of the categories will also show the cad designs that were approved by the customer before production.
