You would think after nearly 33 years of marriage I would be used to swimbo!!
NO! She wants to move to France I want to be somewhere it doesn’t rain by or on the sea! So we sold our house last year moved into rented house, go’s to France spends a small fortune on hotels car hire and food looking for That right area That perfect house…..noooooooooooooo! my planned retirement, a forty foot sloop that had my name on it in Belgian is again on hold……….I know (idea!!) we will buy a motorhome spend a lot more time in France searching for THAT house…noooooooo!
Cant find That right motorhome………we end up going to Germany a couple of weeks ago looking for swimbo’s RIGHT motorhome! I spend 3 times over my budget…bring it back to blighty…..I then spend several long days giving it a masters touch! It comes up like new! IS SHE HAPPY NOoooooooooooooo! I am spending too much time in the motorhome! I tell her it’s only 24 foot long look how long it would have been if I had bought the 40 foot plus yacht……(little dose she know I call the toilet the heads, the kitchen the galley and it’s got a swivel captains chair) Iv’e stuck a boom handle with a sheet attached out the top vent and I sway from side to side………….will I be sent to Coventry now I have revealed my little secret on this forum? Just had a tow bar fitted for three tons…got my eye on a pretty large trailer sailor……..shush……don’t tell swimbo! Any more grief and I might be tempted to go off on my own! …………Oh! By the way it’s a Hymer S700 ( one big problem it dose'nt float!

you went astray buying the winnebago, i think. however, you've got it now so replace speedo with ST60 instrument pack and change steering position to back and replace wheel with tiller?

Pretty major surgery required here.
As you are liquid now, split the money and tie your belongings in a spotty headscarf on a stick over your shoulder. Swing your arms, head back, whistle a merry tune and set off!

I'm really not sure what to say- that story is truly pitiful. You could always drive your " Hymer" down a slipway in the vain attempt to get it floating, then when it doesn't, claim the insurance and put it towards something that will float. How about a PWC Jetski to tow behind it, along with a smart car? You can give SWMBO "backies" on the PWC- she'll be begging to get aproper boat.

If you really want to kill the "buy a house in France" spirit buy her the book "More France please, we're british". Its the typical we-moved-to-france-and-this-is-what-happened book but it really cuts through the romance of it all giving info like which parts of france merely dislike English invaders rather than absolutely hate them. Its very useful info if you are going to make the move but it is also the best weapon to turn swmbo off the idea of doing the move in the first place.
Then maybe you can suggest buying a boat to visit france instead...

Well after a long chat.......... nay...shouting match........when wev'e bought the house which will be as close to the sea as money will streech............I am selling the motorhome and guess what!!.............................................I am sailing...I am sailing.........!!!!!!!

hm. But it carefully says that it's ok for "the lake" ie NOT the sea cos it'll rust to bits. Also, it's too tacky, even more me...

Yep! we will be moving to France we are leaving shortly with motorhome, sports car on trailer and bikes on carrier just over 40' on the road to look at some houses in the charante maritime region which is close to the sea, mooring charges are cheaper than uk! new lifestyle now that we are over the 50 mark!

Been there done that! Went off the idea of a Hymer even with a merc engine. My bad french is better after a pichet. SWMBO now doesn't want to return to UK. Only the local french are not too keen on the newcomers, but that applies everywhere. Off for a short cruise and a swim now. Hope this helps!
