Can't see a good boat put down. Eygthene 24 1/4 tonner

Brilliant.
They’re a good looking fun boat that won’t break the bank and should offer responsive sailing.
Remember every time you have a go at something you’re becoming more professional too! Doing great 👍

New outboard bracket has made a world of difference to the back of the boat. The flex from the old outboard bracket had damaged the gel and it was only a matter of time before something really terrible happened.

Without the outboard on I load tested the bracket at 120kg and we had zero flex! This style is so much stronger as your bolting 2 beautiful machined rails onto the transom. The spring ones are easier to lift and lower but this bracket is super strong!

Friday was the day I had planned to put the mast up. It was a little bit windy at a sustained 92 knots for a period in the afternoon. I'll be honest, I have never wanted a lifejacket for walking around the marina until Friday. Never seen anything like it.

Stepping the mast was pushed back until Sunday. Dan and Sam from Kip did a great job and we were up and secure in less than 1 hour.

Fairlie Riggers had made the new forestay in December and everything was a joy to put together. Finally she looks like a real boat again!

I'll be working on that soon. The angle of the transome is not ideal for the outboard angle however I have a little trick up my sleeve!

Thank you! Sadly I will be unable to keep her. I am allready caretaker of 2 other boats which are in marina's and my friends mooring is not available this year. I had hoped she would be on the mooring at the yacht club but I really cannot afford 3 boats even if she is little! I will be passing her onto somebody and will be happy that we kept another boat going for hopefully another 45 years.

Well it was finally time to roll the dice and see what she is like out of the water. Kip Marina lifted her for an overnight hold so I could have a good look underneath

Aside from a muscley prop and a few on the keel she was pretty clean and the jet wash took most of the crap off

Prop came off easily enough. Shaft secured with Jubilee clips since its no longer going to be used.

Unfortunately a quick job soons becomes a debacle. A crack was found on the outside of the rudder. I didn't get much chance to take pics since we were still in the slings but i set to work with the powerfile.

3 layers on the unbroken leading edge and 8 layers on the broken part did the trick. Just so you know, I dug out the damp foam the best I could, dried it and then filled with thickened epoxy and structural foam mix.

All sanded ready for primer

Outboard bracket got swapped round to the right way up

And thats all folks! The Egythene 24 has been saved, and has allready been rehomed! No need to advertise she is going to be a little club racer for a friend and his family.

She will stay exactly where she lies and he is going to continue on with the project for his needs. If I am lucky I might even get to crew on her on race night!

Your outboard is going to be cavitating and revving it's nuts off at the slightest wave. It may be giving more thrust in the right direction but only when the prop is in the water. The waterline needs to be nearer the top of the leg extension rather than just above the cavitation plate.

FYI those are 304 stainless clips, not 316. Before you think I'm either wrong or being a smartarse, I should point out that they aren't "Jubilee" clips by brand, but they actually came out of my factory. So whilst I applaud your choice of brand I know for absolute definite that they are 304 not 316, and I really don't want you blaming me when they fail!

I wouldn't leave them too long before swapping them out as they will be a significant crevice corrosion risk left submerged. Better yet put some on the inside of the boat if you haven't already. If you can't get any 316 locally PM me and I'll sort you some out.

I appreciate your thoughts and admire your keen eye!

The boat just had a quick dust off but she will be coming out of the water during the summer for a below water line recon

The new owner wishes to scrape her back to zero on a warm summers day and give her some TLC so they only have to do a few months.

The old engine is still in place and connected up however I wanted to be belt and braces in case someone took the engine out in the water.

If I am around I will probably remove the old P bracket and glass up the holes for him as I don’t mind lending a hand.

Seems ok for now. We had her out in a bit of chop and all handled fine. Even with my mate on the front of the boat she doesn't cavitate.
