Can You Just Sail Into Dublin Now.

Not too sure about the central Liffey but you have Howth to the North and Dun Laoghire to the South of Dublin. Both have excellent Marinas.

also Dublin City Marina on the liffey, the odd 200ft plus superyacht visits. just google it and you will see the berthing arrangements. Dunlaoghaire is easier to handle than Malahide as there are no tide constraints.

Howth & Dun Laoghaire are on the DART railway for easy access to the city centre. I'm not sure what depth there is at low water in Malahide. But berthing in the heart of the city has got to be worth doing, just for the craic.

Just missed you (phew) - we were HH overnight last night. Popped down to a couple of unpronouncable bays in the afternoon - home now (Malahide that is).

Dublin: You need to book Dublin City Moorings (ask for Carmel) and she will also book bridge lift for you.

Lifts are scheduled only: 11:00 - 15:00 & 19:00 - call them on Ch 12 an hour beforehand - at the breakwater and when at the bridge. Dont be surprised if they ask you to wait as they can be busy and the bloke has to drive down from Port Centre - if waiting for a while, stick yer nose to the dolphin as it splits the flow and easy to maintain station.

PM if you need any help / info>

Malahide entry is 4hrs either side HW Springs or 24hrs on Neaps.

I advise sticking to the 4hrs for first timers and the channel is a bit deeper on the South side. Another tip is sound the depth at the SWM and deduct 2m which = lowest water over the bars (2).

Turn left at the breakwater past the big rock & keep going, about 45 miles-ish, probably take you an hour or two, takes me all day.

unpronouncable bays .

We even managed to visit the wrong bay. Very nice it was though. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Just not the right one. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Been Maldahide donkeys years ago, also Howth, never Dublin though, I dont think it was invented then. If we give them a call when we reach sort of Howth area, will that do??

Book with DCM first then call "Dublin Port Radio" at Howth to let them know you will be at the bridge at one of the scheduled lift times. Don't arrive at the bridge and say lift please - coz they wont.

Dublin has been reinvented recently - well worth a visit.

Stop press, what am I saying - scrap all that.

Head to Poolbeg on the Port side (thats the left /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) just before the bridge - run by club, good facilities and better value. Obviously you wont need a bridge lift - just tell DPR that you are heading to "Poolbeg"

Ask Littleship coz he has mates there /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

YES<ul type="square">[*]Dun Laoghaire Marina (south side rail access to city centre)
[*]Malahide Marina (north county rail access)
[*]Howth YC Marina (north side rail access)
[*]Poolbeg YC Marina (east city centre on Liffey no bridge lifts needed)
[*]Dublin City Moorings (city centre beside IFSC, limited berths, bridge lift required, over rated location imho)[/list]Recommend Poolbeg YC for a visit to the city centre (walking distance), less of a white zoo than either Dunlaoghaire or Malahide. It's right opposite Dublin port. Friendly folk too unlike reports of DCM. Advice from a local is Poolbeg YC.

PS: In a few years time the Grand Canal basin in the docklands office district will make a great visitor destination (sea lock access).

PS: If you are over drop me a PM if you want to say hello to a few forumites (eg SV, OF, etc).
