Just curious as to what prompted this post Peter. I was out crewing on a B class boat Sunday and wonder if you were on the water and spotted something?
Colin
I was out on Sunday and no I didn't see anything that day but earlier in the week I attended a river traffic workshop and this particular fleet was mentioned by the ports authority rep. Having said that, you know the position I hold in the club and over the years I have had to do some serious grovelling to individual boat owners, river pilots and ports authorities just because certain racers (not all) are totally ignorant of the colregs. To some racers passing 60 feet ahead of a commercial vessel operating in a fairway was 59 feet too much, unfortunately for some weird reason the commercial skipper/pilot doesn’t seem to hold the same view. If you then confront the racing guy you get this incredulous look from him and you know that he just doesn’t understand what you are talking about (I didn’t hit him so what’s HIS problem) Dahhhhh.
Its not the leaders in the dinghy races in Chi harbour who give problems, as you say they use us to get advantage. It is the middle groupers who attempt to bully me and fail. Like wise in the solent although I do try to set my course well away from them.
Hi Boatman
having read this thread, it seems as if you are in some position of authority within your club. If your club's group of racers are causing concern and raising possible safety issues to other users of the water, after due process and keel hauling by the club main committee, why not inform them that if they do not mend their ways ways they will be asked to resign and will not have access to your clubhouse etc
