Can anyone on Earth update the SW of a Raymarine bit officially not supported anymore

You can find an explanation of what Raymarine sent me in my post #34.
But don't ask me to guarantee anything about that - let alone if it can work for you!
That said, no problems from my part to forward the files to anyone interested to play a bit of Russian roulette with their course computers... :LOL:

Hi, I resume this old thread to find out if you found the S1G update file ...
Thank you
I contacted Raymarine but they weren’t particularly helpful and wouldn’t send me the S1/S1g files citing the need for ‘special’ equipment to do the upload. As we know it is probably just a serial cable needed but they wouldn’t play ball with me.

Hi folks, i'm yet another one to stumble across this thread with a T150 unit that needs a bit of TLC. Never averse to a bit of DIY electronics i'd love to upgrade the firmware but have struggled to find/obtain the upgrade files. I was hoping after reading this thread that perhaps MapisM/heaven would be able to forward me the files to have a play?

For my part and for point of completeness I found the S1 service manual (http://roxima.altervista.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/smartpilot-S1-S1G-_service_manual.pdf) which confirms the serial pins and has some generally useful information. Its related to the S1 of course, but some of the diagnostic elements are applicable to the 150.

Good point Vas, I didn't notice he/she is new to the asylum.
No big deal, though.
Anyone would be spoilt for choices, when looking for trivial threads where some useless post won't be out of place! :ROFLMAO:

Heh, brilliant. I guess I’ll just have to get more involved :-) I tend to be more of a reader and researcher than a chatter though I do chip in when relevant!

I, probably like many other am very reluctant to replace the entire autopilot system with an ev model or even a second hand course computer when an update could resolve the issue.

Maybe I've been lucky then, because after asking yesterday to the guy who sent me the instructions if he could send me also the files, today I got them all:
- the "exe" program;
- a couple of "ini" files to be used for configuring the connection either through COM1 or COM2;
- a "bin" file which is the actual upgraded software, to be uploaded to the course computer.

Btw, the version is 4.19, i.e. well above the 3.0 which I required, and they confirmed me that it is the same software that runs not only my 400G, but also the later S2 and S3 course computers (whose upgrade program/instructions/files are exactly the same).

So, now laziness is not anymore a good enough excuse for not trying the update myself, I reckon! :D
I will just wait the end of the delivery trip, for very obvious reasons, and will report back in due course (no pun intended!).

In the meantime, if by chance anyone is interested in the same files, just drop me a pm with your mailbox.

Hi MapisM,

Thansk for the very useful information. I understand the discussion is kind of old, but in cas you have been conservative enough to keep them, I am interested in the three files, following your kind suggestion.

Best

Hi Bruno, I just sent the files to both your mailboxes above.
Let us know how the upgrade goes!

PS for antaris: did the process work with your S3G course computer?

I just got my hands on the RS232 Cable and I am staring at the Parts in my workshop - in awe of what may go wrong and I brick them all! :)
bricking something from RS232 is going to be rather hard, just get on with it!
considering that you're most likely going to be using a less than 15yo laptop (so no onboard 9pin serial), the only thing that you may destroy is the USB port where you're going to fit the usb2serial adapter. I've done that 20yrs ago when tuning my car. Trick is to make sure you run the laptop from it's own battery and not from an inverter running of the batteries that also run the a/p. In theory lots of that stuff are isolated, but you never know.
So laptop on it's own steam, connect serial, get comms, job done ?

V.
