Any idea guys where we can get a camping gas bottle filled where they don't insist that the bottle has a date stamp on It , we did manage to get one filled in marina Veruda lucky it did have a date on it , are other two don't .
W e been told that it is law in Croatia that bottle have to be dated .
We are far north and have just started to head back South so anywhere would be fine south of Pula .
We still have a bottle and a half so there isn't Ny rush to get a re fill .

Thanks in advances .

Klimno Krk is open to Bora wind. You may expect it tomorrow (if I am right).
If you go to Punat you can anchor there safely. There is a marina (good service btw) and there I keep my SY. I can recommed you a good taverna (konoba)...

enjoy (well the weather is really bad this year but so it is...)

Hi Simon
We read you blog and found it very interesting , and we made some note of place we wanted to visit which you had , so the info will come in useful .
Just a few things you may be interested in if you are thinking of coming here again
.
1 the fees for entering Croatia are lower roughly 1090 Kn for our 90 days for 11.75 yacht , if you staying longer get a year one , it not much more .
the law as been change re how far you have to be away from the land and mooring buoys , it was 300 mts if now 150 mts , Croatian law clause 49 (3 ) not many harbour master know this but we have a copy of the law if you every need it.
we nearly in Aug and Croatia is surprising empty , we keep waiting for the mass of yacht to turn up but so far it not happen .
we still updating the webs site for Northern Croatia so if you do decide to return next year there maybe some useful info on it .

Enjoy the rest of the summer

Some of the reason is that a majority of summer visitors are Italians sailing over the Adriatic, usually beginning mid-July through to late August. The Croatian authorities have somewhat shot themselves in the foot by promulgating a notice to all Italian harbour authorities - in general I think, certainly my area between Trieste to Venice - that all visiting EU vessels must possess a T2L document to prove their community status. This will not be checked on entry but may be asked for at any time by Croatian customs, the lack of this document can incur a heavy fine.

Despite the fact that an irelevant T2L document can be easily bought from an EU-accredited shipping company for a decreasing price (decreasing because of the increasing requests and last known in my area to cost €70) there are many in my marina who claim they will not visit Croatia this year due to this.

The unstable weather - you are not alone with your persistent thunderstorms, they are also prevalent in NE Italy - has also certainly played a role.

T2L I got in my country (Slovenia) for free but I had to sort all other papers (value of the boat etc..) and present them to the customs via one guy and it costed me 190eur (it was an offer Marina Punat had).

Police is very active this year regarding T2L.

The weather just adds to the situation.
But also Krk is not a destination for yachts. Going souther you'll find more boats...

Hi guys
We sailed from Kanica to klimno on krk crossing the north of Cres and under the bridge joining Krk with the man lane and sew only two yachts in all this morning we left Kilmno and heading for Punat on Krk another roughly twenty odd miles and we just seen our first yacht as we are about two miles from Punat .
T2L was a bit of an concern but we was told by the RYA that if we have the original VAT receipt it won't be a problem , so far fingers cross we not been asked for it .

Thunderstorms , what thunderstorms ? :)
What that Big Bang we just heard

Hmm, The notice from the Croatian authorities posted in the window of our HM office is unequivocal, that it requires a T2L document to prove EU community status - nothing about VAT status. Perhaps being able to prove VAT-paid status is enough proof of "community status"?* If so, that notice should say so, it may have calmed down the Italian boat-owners in my marina.

All the RYA 'Cruising Advisor' could tell me when I asked in May about my non-T2L possession before I left (and before I was made aware of this notice) was that: "I'm afraid I am not in a position to provide definitive information at present".

* Edit:
From the Ministry of Tourism www.mint.hr/default.aspx?id=12766

Every vessel entering the EU customs territory may be subject to customs control either by Croatian customs or by any other Member State's customs authority. Therefore, EU residents should always have on board some kind of proof that the customs and/or VAT have been paid for the vessel in question in one of the Member States. Ownership and flag of the vessel are not evidence that a vessel has Commodity goods status. The following documents prove that a vessel is Commodity good:

1. Document T2L, or

2. Original invoice, or

3. Certificate from a customs body or other respective document as proof of VAT payment.

Hi Barnacle
I had the boat from new imported to the UK from France so I guess what the RYA was saying is had I have the original
Invoice and VAT I shouldn't have a problem . Now if I get some bull**** custom officer at some point who try's it on is another thing . But so far even when we entered Croatia they wasn't or interested in seeing any prove , as it happen I was very surprise how little time it took us to clear in police , as long as it took to photo copy our passport , harbour master about five mins , it took longer to find a bank and use the ATM .
The RYA can sometime be very help full , other time very vague .

You must be fireproof with your VAT-paid invoice. I cannot believe that even the most awkward jobsworth can make difficulties ... very few have T2L documents and only they since this irrelevant document thing was dreamed up and distributed. It probably was thought relevant for the many Italians with sub-10m boats that are not eligible for the Italian register and bought second-hand with little paperwork.

It could be a problem for me with a pre-1985 construction boat and therefore no 'VAT-paid' or 'deemed VAT-paid' documentation. As you say, the entry procedure is quick and easy and no VAT-paid questions asked ... but that is not the job of the harbour staff, instead customs, which are not part of the entry procedures.

Enjoy your further days in Croatia. Try to call in at Ilovik, not far from where you are now - I can recommend the Amico restaurant right by the steamer pier and Elsa's grilled squid "with extra garlic?" as she always asks me.

I can never work out if your British or Swiss , but in the early days a few year after the VAT came in we got an VAT exempt Certificate , on our old Moody , I know that's a long shot but maybe you could look into it . That if your British .
I'm an original Brit living in Switzerland (Swiss naturalised) - retired so living through the summers in Italy aboard my UK MCA Part I registered boat. :)

I think that HMRC only briefly issued VAT paid or exempt documents a long time ago, which they definitely do not do now, claiming it is impossible to know if a yacht has left the EU and returned, thus voiding any previous status.

My case is more complicated by me having bought in Holland - although it shouldn't, both there and my registered base are both in the EU and was immediately brought to Italy, also an EU member. The Dutch customs have told me (by a letter in Dutch) they cannot issue any formal document for my boat, just that it is not eligible for VAT payment because of the construction year (1981 - prior to January 1985).

Vic - thanks for the update. Like you we enjoyed our stay in Croatia last year and will visit again when time permits and of course refer to your blog !! If you haven't visited Ston on the way up we can recommend it as one of our highlights of last year.

You can get Gas at Mali Losinj but you have to ask at the little chandlers in town and some guy will pick it up on his bike then drop it back in the morning. Also on Pag at Novalja. during the season the camping may be able to do it, or 200m along the road from the INA gas station is a refill station, just out of town. Definitatly Zadar.

I had my boat imported into Croatia last year and have no idea what this T2L stuff is all about, but will cross that bridge when I get to it.
