Dear all,

Doubtless this has been askedd in posts before, but I can't find it when I search them.

We are seriously considering a New Sealine S34 at the moment, upgrading from a Bayliner 2455.

The Question is, as owners (or ex-owners / those with knowledge of them) are you pleased with it ? Would you buy one if you had your time again, or are there any changes to the spec you would consider ?

I've read posts suggesting going for the better engines over the KAD32's but costs may prevent us.... or is it such an important issue that we should ditch some extras for the engines ? (We'll be South coast / over to the Channel Islands cruising)

And finally, and perhaps most importantly, how willing were the dealers make a good deal for you, we managed only 6.5 % off the Bayliner in 2000 but would hope to get a bit more this time round.

Hope you can help,

Andy

You can always add extras later (rader, plotter whatever) but you only get one chance at speccing engines. Boat will be much nicer with the bigger engines, also the bigger engines will make the boat much better to resell.

If you are part exchanging your Bayliner you'll probably find they want list price or a minimal discount on the new Sealine, but they'll give you masses for your boat.

Ari.

We had an S34 for 3 years with KAD32's and thought that is was great. I was a little concerned about the smaller engines, but needn't have been. They pick up really well (as they have both superchargers and turbos) - a guy up the pontoon from me had KAD43's and didn't really go any quicker. Also the 32's aren't as thirsty! Lot's of room down in the engine bay due to their smaller size as well.

My boat was fairly stock, but it would have been nice to have eberspecher and maybe a microwave - depending on how/when you intend to use the boat.

I would definitely have another one and the size is just right, you can always get on 10m moorings, which you couldn't with a 37, and you have more or less the same space (and quite a bit more than a Targa 34, which would also cost more).

Be very aggresive with the dealers, I reckon you'll be able to get a great deal!

Good Luck!

Thanks for the response !
You've answered my concerns over engines ! Our current Bayliner 2455 is slightly underpowered which causes a few problems in heavy seas, but we are entering a different league !

The sea trial will be with KAD32's and that will confirm everything in due course. We're going for heater, bow thruster etc and trying to get a good deal, although they are a bit slow with coming back with the figures !

With the Part Ex it's difficult to work out what the discount is but we will be pushing hard !

expect to be offered 'trade' on the binliner, which is basically what Essex Boatyards will pay them for it. Actually, the discount bit is irrelevant - what matters is how much extra cash you have to dob over. Who're you dealing with there, BTW?

We're dealing with Racecourse Yacht Basin, went to see them last Sunday, but haven't heard anything back from them yet...not impressed but I'm not going to call them and appear too keen !

As for the trade in etc, we've worked out what we want to give them on top of the part ex and will see what they offer.
When we bought the last boat, they did things the other way round..ie gave top price on the part ex and little discount ont he package.
Don't care what way they do it as long as the financial figure matches mine !

If you are buying new then you want the best discount and low P/x as you will pay VAT on your new boats purchase price.

Don't want to burst your bubble but do you really want new?, there are plenty of good used S34's about with prices to suit all pockets (except mine unfortunately) and various specs. No VAT to pay, problems ironed out, get a good survey for peace of mind and a full valet to make it feel new (seller might even pay for this). It will probably have a few goodies on it as well

Good point. Sealine list 4, inc a 2002 boat with KAD32's at between £119 and £125k, and they'll part ex on 'em

I take the point on the second hand issues and it was always the initial plan to go in that direction, but if I can get a good price... then there will not be that much between 125k and a new one.

A good friend is also in the same position so they are looking at two linked deals.... be interesting to see what they have to offer on the price front !
