cabin heating

You’re wrong Wayne the Chinese one isn’t crap it’s just cheap. You were heated by one when you were on my boat!!

The instructions and accessories it comes with are crap though. But at £89 for the lot you can chuck em.

Oh they are crap and cheap. Having gad two.myself it's pot puck if they work. I did t use yours on your boat koda. It is well know they are not good deal.

Mine works well, as do the vast majority of boat owners who have fitted them correctly with decent silencers and skin fittings etc.....

There is a desire to stick with a known brand in many cases, but the Chinese heaters are exceptional value and quality.

As Webasto and Eberspacher were engaged in a price cartel together, I have no sympathy for them!

To think they are all Chinese made ( crap ) at the end of the day, but for for Webasto they are made all over the world. . the cheapo ones i guess this thread is on about is the most basic and afforable or what folk are to tight to pay for a better known make and relibale to after sales like Erber, Webasto or Planar.

I have a had Propex LPG for a few years and has been great. no problems at all. cost mahbe 4xs the chinese diesle heaters but its British made, proud to buy British aswell. And believe me i am far from having spare money like so many on here. so its not a price thing for me. i want quality and good service. you dont get that with cheap chinese tat. its buy another unit for spares and fix yourself lol.

Its a shame all the UK is going or is already there to buy cheap ( chinese crap )

I lie the sound of a Planar diesel heater for my next boat but its Russian. mite risk it as all fol i talk to say there great.

Wayne. I am afraid you are wrong on this one. I have 4 of those heaters and all are flawless. Most others report the same

I just say from my findings and thats one in two works, and the one that does is good when it works. not often a pain in the ares but when its needed i want it to work. For the money there good yes, £100 on the boating world is nothing but then there is the extras you needs so atleast double that. depends on the extras you need to make it work and be safe.

And as you say `most` other say there flawless. but then help with faults on facebook pages dedicated tp the chinese ones says a lot on problems i means i bet its near 100k by now.

I cant be wrong in true findings and researching them for years now. i swore never to get one but i did, and it failed, so then i needed another way to heat my workshop later and i tried another for the sake of a £100 as it was not to be used on a boat and it works. still not sure if to have one on my boat though.

ok so if I was to place this in the engine Bay Area . surely the air intake on the back of the unit would need to be moved also or it would be warming up the air from the engine bilge area which is where petrol fumes build up over night ?

I would always advocate taking outside fresh air in to heat the boat. The reason being as you say you will get smelly bilge air, but more importantly you will just be recirculating damp air.

that was my concern by placing it in the engine Bay Area , I dont want to be smelling that all night

so it seems a cubby hole with fresh air going in is the best option
I cant see on the literature what sort of space it needs around it , should it ne placed by or in a flame retardant wall/box ?
ive saved the links for the sealed silencer and the double skin outlet , ive foind the ducting and insulation for the duct. id also like to wrap the exhaust pipe also . just need to work out the min size space I can put the heating unit in really , thanks for all the advice

ok so I have purchased the diesel heater kit (ebay) the sealed silencer and skin exhaust outlet , also another 60cm length of flex pipe and exhaust heat wrap as its going to be a few inches from the outer skin of the boat , as for the combustion air in part surely that can come from anywhere ?

thanks

Mine is just from the locker the heater is fitted. Make sure you plan how to route the ducting as that was the hardest part of my install. Also, consider the distance from the 12v power supply to the heater as the supplied power cable is fairly thin. If you have a decent run consider upgrading the power cables otherwise you will suffer from voltage drop at the heater.

does not say how long the controller cable is . the batteries are 4 ft from where the heater will be
thanks
I dont remember but at 4ft you should be fine. It is worth joining the facebook pages for the heater and also the 12 boating group as loads of information there.

The length of the wires is quite long. I think 4ft will be ok. They come prewired with all the correct plug ends. If necessary you can splice a wire in soldered and heat shrunk. I found mine to be plenty long enough.

I also used a separate isolating switch with led so I can switch the whole thing off separatly

Right I am going to chime in - I fitted a CDH in my boat for the winter and first of all there not cheap if you want to fit it with decent materials etc however they are cheaper compared to webasto ebers etc.
What makes these hazardous / dangerous is down to one thing and nothing more
THE INSTALLER
Simple as that
I spent 2 years researching the best way to fit it into my boat.
That's all I'll say

I couldn't agree more

Regarding costs, I knew the fittings would cost as much as the heater prior to purchase.

About £250 all up - a bargain!
