I see from using google a lot of these diesel powered heaters are advertised as safe for boats
are they ?
has anyone used one and if so any pics of install please

thanks

Yes but make sure you buy a sealed silencer from Southern Lasers as the ones provided are for external use only.

Have a search of these forums as there are plenty of threads on this subject.

There is also an active Facebook group that has practical advice.

Put one in my little yacht a couple of years ago and it's been brilliant. I did replace the silencer, ducting, etc that came with it with good quality marine fittings and of course had to buy the double skin exhaust outlet for the transom

I’ve just bought 2.
£89x 2 for the heaters.
£1600 for the ducting, outlets, insulation, marine exhaust and upgraded controllers.
Still way cheaper than the German versions. And I’ve had 2 on previous boats. They are great.

I have started several threads on these they are incredibly good heaters. As others have said just pay attention to the exhaust and buy and fit the proper one. also make sure you have a CO alarm

the above way, one has a cheap combustion and pump arangement, just where a part failure could be most 'interesting'
i like to sleep without worry on the boat

wonder if the same peeps would fit a cheap outboard to the boat too ?

There is nothing wrong with them. As I said I’ve had them before. I’ve also had eberspacher. There is no reliability difference. eber and webasto were fined millions for price fixing yet didn‘t lower their prices. I simply didnt consider them. Buy 5 spare Chinese heaters and still it’s half the price of eberspacher. No way for me.

Here we go again. Perhaps if you make the effort to read the various threads on these you will understand how wrong you are. Also look up the meaning of the word cheap

Not sure what price southern laser exhaust is but i got one from MV heating for £74
22mm Exhaust System – MV Heating

This is the Exhaust £38

24mm Exhaust Silencer Muffler Fits For WEBASTO NARROW BOAT diesel Air Heater UK | eBay

And this is the Skin fitting. £29

Skin Hull Marine Diesel Boat Exhaust Fitting Heater Stainless Steel 24 mm | eBay

These say 24 mm so do a little research on the diameters to make sure they are the correct ones. I am sure there are others just make sure they are leak free and the correct dia for the tube. Also use fire cement to seal at the connection and good stainless Jubilee clips. The ones that come with the heaters are not the best

Quick question here rather than start another thread.

I have an Eberspacher D3L that has just stopped putting any heat out. It is also a bit small (3kw) so would like to
put an 8kw chinese one in it's place. It is in a very awkward location so I am hoping I can keep all the exhaust, ducting and fuel lines
rather than replacing. Is this a fair assumption?

Yes it is a very fair assumption. The Chinese ones are very good but you cannot compleetly trust their heat rating. I know mine claim to be 5KW and they do indeed put out a lot of heat. I suspect the 8KW are actually the same machine but I do not know. From 3KW to 8KW is a big increase. I would perhaps try a 5Kw first. They are only about £90 all in so nowt to loose rearly

Agreed. I investigated fixing my D3 and diagnosis alone was more than the cost of a new Chinese job. Even the bracket, on my Broom, fitted exactly. I did need to add a couple of new fuel line fittings but everything else just fitted. The new controller is far superior to the old Eber one and with a remote control......... what's not to like.
