I think we've cracked it!!

Some of you will remember my frustration from the winter/spring with Neraida's performance and my sailing skills. Well, several things have happened since then.

First. Boat Preparation. Neraida has come out of the water, had several tons of crap blased from her bottom and keel, been faired and scraped, and two fresh coats of rollered on Tiger Extra have been applied and that blummin spensive boot-toppy type stuff.

Second. "Freeing up" Sailing her a bit freeeeer (over e'd somewhat, sorry), and tracking the main (as recommended by North Sails Tuning Guide for the FC8, is that cheating?) to bring her upright.

Finally. Practice!! Can't say much more about that really.

In conclusion (YES, I WILL BE READING RESPONSES) we have had some cracking sails in the past few days.
Saturday, a close and a broad reach averaging 9.8 knots over 17 miles in a steady 5 with a slab out of the main and the number 2 jib (the only one we ever use) and speeds at times topping 12knots.
Sunday. Woaaa! Closer reach followed by an insane broad reach (14knots on the log) same sail, bit more wind, averaged 10.4... (No spinnaker work on either remember)
Tonight, bout 8-10 knots of wind, beating with full main and no.2, steady 8 ish knots on the log (bit more on the gps, plenty of tide) before the wind sodded off and me motored home (dinner in oven).

Sorry for the collosal post, but we're abit chuffed!

We had a bit of tidal help on the close reach bit, but the other way was mad. She didn't feel out of control like our other high speed runs in the past. Vibrations take abit of getting used to, but oher than that it was all abit, well, easy! /forums/images/icons/blush.gif

Re: Spring tides

Is that a view of a shop front and a road reflected in the instrument front ?
No wonder you were doin 12 - bet the caravanners were a bit frustrated behind you, though.

Re: Spring tides

No Ken, its what we in the Solent call, "A Marina". It is a concept that has caught on quite well here. You see, some of us don't like leaving our boats in piles of mud.

No, no, I'm not rising to it. *huffff*

So...

...if it was not a shop front and the reflection of a road, but was as you state "A marina"...what were you thinking about, doing 12 knots inside a marina?? A bit irresponsible eh?

Re: Spring tides

Oh yeah, and I'm SOOOOOOOO SORRY that we don't have blummin Brookes and Bloomin Gatehouse STi80000XAS Sooper Dooper Anti-reflectoid Daylight Gore-Tex instrumentation with Bluetooth and 3G plugins to make a quick snap "properly" viewable in a cobbled together emergency website, which shouldnt have been published yet.

AAAAND my original post was in ultimate reply to a request for help some months ago about sail trim and stuff, to which i don't remember YOU contributing.

*Double Huff*

You see? You should never, under any circumstances, look at any replies to your post. It always ends in tears...
