Buying tactics

You are over thinking it - if you like it buy it.

As a long term broker I can tell you every broker I know is not interested in "tactics" or the games some people (wrongly) think go on. I HATE it when two people are interested in the same boat at the same time, as everyone just gets agitated for the wrong reasons and goes off and looks at other boats.

The sellers despise any property type mind games too.

They are usually looking for the buyer who will pay a fair price with the least hassle. That's the one who get's the call first.

Those who seem to think it's some sort of war, with all sorts of tactics are the least interesting and will probably drop to the back of the queue.

It's just buying a boat.

Enjoy it. :)

This is simple.

There may be no other buyer... or there may be. Ask when he is coming. Lets assume they say "Easter Weekend"

You make an offer at a value you are happy to pay. Where you wont regret it (any more than any other boat purchase) and reflect back thinking you paid too much. You say but my offer can only stand until Thursday before Easter at 9am as there are a couple of other boats I would like to look at if this one isn't going to happen. You will need to organise travel and accommodation for those viewings so you can't wait forever.

You say to let you know if the Easter buyer doesn't come to anything in case your other viewings don't either. But you make it clear you are bidding what you believe is a fair price and is your highest offer.

If they contact you after Easter, you ask lots about why the other seller didn't buy. ... .that's your bargaining chip.
