Happy to be educated here - what exactly is a 6 ply leech?
With a 4 ply leech, the leech line is part of the sacrificial strip and requires the leech line covering to be remade when the sacrificial strip needs replacing. With a 6 ply leech, only the sacrificial strip needs replacing as the leech line is part of the sail, not the sacrificial strip. This means the cost of replacing the sacrificial strip on a 6 ply is about half the cost of a 4 ply.

If anyone's interested, Dacron won out. The sailmaker said the strength of Vectron is only along the fibre, so the jib would need to be radial cut for Vectron to make sense, which adds more to the cost. He said if we were going off round the world it might make sense, but suggested Dacron for our few weeks a year use.

The sail was made by Goacher sails. Designed, cut and made in the UK, and very good value. I've only used it in very light airs so far but I'm pleased with it.
