We're a couple of newbies thinking of buying our first boat from Permier Yachts in Swanick. Does anyone have any feedback regarding their after sales service?
No experience of Premier as a broker but, are you aware that this is the same Premier that operate the marinas? Brighton, Chichester, Swanwick etc. If it is a used boat I dont know if there is any 'after sales service' to be expected. If its a new boat, what is it?
By after-sales service, do you mean identification and remedy of handover faults, or general maintenance and advice, instruction in boat handling, weekly prep of the boat for your visits or ...?
How much experience do you have in sailing or mobos, have you sorted the insurance, how good are you at DIY or do you have enough time for it ? Do you have a survey ?
It's as much about matching your needs and appetite for support, with what the broker is proposing to sell you. A mismatch of expectations can easily lead to disappointment and expense.
We are selling our Sail Boat through them and they have been great to deal with. Ours is only Low Value at £18,500 but they have been very good. It is not yet sold so do not know about thir selling skills but we will see!
If new try to avoid paying all the money on handover. There are always further items of work . It took a year to finally get my last boat satisfactory and the previous 2 new boats just always seemed to have things that needed sorting/repairing in the first few months.
The marine industry in England is like dealing with your worse kind of 2nd hand car dealer. Getting things right before delivery and sorting out problems just take time. I have never figured this out as the individuals you deal with seem OK. I concluded that its because there is a sales side that promises everything and a commisioning side that is strapped for cash and adequate qualified Labour that has to fulfill peoples dreams! So far I have found them all like this but have not dealt with Premier.
If 2nd hand a good survey and dont pay until all the agreed work is done.
We were very impressed with the Elan Impression 384 at the London Boat show and are considering buying it new from Permier, as there don't seem to be many second-hand. At present we are doing lots of research on the whole process - thanks to RYA - as this is our first time buying any boat.
So far Premier seem fine to deal with, but to answer Sarabandes question, yes, we were thinking more about how good they are at addressing any initial teething problems during the first year. Will certainly keep Sailfree's advice in mind.
