Hi we are thinking of buying a boat in italy and sailing it back round to the uk. Any advice anyone can give us about the trip. Roughly how long would you think it would take?(Not that time is a problem) Its also a holiday away, lol Any advice would be appreciated.

In Adriatic or on trhe western coast? Size? General likinks /dislikings?
It's getting a bit late now to start looking (if You want it for summer 2007) for used boat and for a new one You would have to search for some unaccomplished sale.
I sold my old one last year and bought new one last june.
Let me know by PM if I can help you. I'm no professional broker or salesman. Cheers

Hi the boat is in Rome (West coast) The boat is 38ft, I am in between jobs so i have time to sail it back.

Thought it would be a good holiday as well as a collection trip.

I am about one hours drive from Rome and know the area a bit, so if I can help you with language (e.g. translating between you and the seller/broker) e.t.c and even transport, let me know (PM is best). I work from home, so can usually arrange my schedule to have a day or so free even in the week.

Alan.

In principle I would go ASAP to the islands in front of Naples before july/august, then to Bonifacio in Corsica and then, according to medium term weather forecasts, make a "BIG 8" either clockwise or counterclockwise around Sardinia and Corse. Then a hop to Baleares, then spanish coast and then either french canals to the Channel or Gibraltar.
Best of luck!

Pardon?

You mentioned a good holiday, and now you want to sail straight from Rome to Gibraltar?
Sounds like a nonsense to cruise some nine hundreds miles, having enroute some of the most beatiful places of the med, and not take some time to enjoy them.
I would second the suggestion from gianenrico in principle, but that takes time.
Unless you're doing that as a job, I'd say that at least some days in northern coast of Sardinia/southern coast of Corsica, plus the balearics, that's really the minimum for such a trip.
