Buckingham 20 restoration, formerly Plant Pot

OOoooooooo YES been very busy cruising and luvin life for a change :)

We have had to come home due to post op on my elbow tomorrow and T has one Wednesday. Lots to do when we get back.

What a cracking few days it has been. Launched on th Lancaster canal Friday afternoon which went ok, It did get a few battle scares just from the straps on the lower chines and gunnel and cabin top, but hey ho, he should of protected them but i will get over it with a quick touch up.

All ended up a bit later than planned, a mate came to give me a hand with it all which was a great help. Slight panic as when we got to the launch site at Ashton Basin Preston there was nowhere to get the boat in. So we moved aNB over a tads and squeezed it between it and scaff poles sticking up out the water lol. bottom twitching moment but the crane driver did a top job.

We spent the night at the basin with take out and copious amounts of Asti :) love the tarty drink :) Had a right laugh with Iain and the rest of the loons from the yard till 1am.

Then up at 6am for prep work like add 125kg of ballast to the bow locker to sit it better. and shopping for supplies around Preston, forgot a hose pipe for water. Not that i needed more onboard as it has a leak at the back end , I fitted a sealed cabin bulkhead so i know it is leaking under the rear deck some where, not a bloody clue where but the bilge pump kicks in every 4-5 hrs and pumps out maybe 3-4 gallon.

But for that its great. We set off Saturday about 2pm to get to Billsboro for tea time which we did around 5:30pm, i was well waiting for a Strawberry cider but they didnt have it know, hey ho Thatchers will do and a fish mix platter. The next day we met up with my Bro and took hi and his girl friend for a cruise, they are coming back done next weekend and stopping on the caravan park near the home mooring, BBQ time i hope.

Well rest was plane sailing to the mooring, oh Barton is amazing, driven past many a time but never knew there was so much to do there and see, the garden centre is the best yet.

When we arrived at the mooring it was a wee bit over grown, a friend cut it back but that was back in February i think and now its this. T stated but then got a bush cutter on it in time for next week, i have ordered some new decking for it and a storage shed for this week when we get back up to it. Oh need a petrol mower aswell.

So there you go a boring few days on the cut :):):) NOT. i was lying there a few time pinching myself to think its been so long i have been afloat and the boat is done but for cosmetics, which you will see in the video when i manage to download them all.

I did attempt a walk around video but failed due to dropping the phone and pausing it etc etc, will try again Thursday when we go back for a few days

Sorry about the videos being wrong angle, camerawomen hey.

Drop

We had a stop over after half an hour as there was a problem with the remotes which i fixed, well bodged as i couldnt get the circlips on so used duct tape, still struggling with my elbow to do things.

It was a 3hr or so cruise to the first stop at Billsboro so a few Asti`s was called for :)

20190629-150401.jpg

Got to the first stop in good time, just gutted there was no Strawberry cider on tap this time.

20190629-172929.jpg

I was having such a good time i wasnt even bothered about the launch and the state of the paint work afterwards, will give the boat another coat and touch up soon.

20190629-185712.jpg

Well that was the first night and it went spiffingly :):) but for th leak which i was still not concerned about fro some odd reason. why stress hey :)

We got to the mooring and well, i think it need cutting back a touch again, my mate did it ages ago but since then

20190630-153559.jpg

Our Skittles loved the trip aswell, she likes to warn the ducks off lol

So i have ordered a 250w solar kit which should be here in a week or so, that will keep my mind at ease for the bilge pump to have power plus more when we use the boat. That will be mounted on the storage shed i have coming aswell next week, in the mean time we will sort the mooring out, needs a mow and more decking fitting which is all ordered for this week.

Interior needs a few cosmetics and wot not but will do a walk around video this week.

Cant believe how good it is to be back on the water. @kawasaki, i dont think it will take to well to the high seas, or low seas even.

I do have to say though the rudder works better than all the others i have used in the past. I was able to cut the engine thrust and still steer well. Got heavier the faster you went but i was cruising at 6-8knots max and was great and kept direction better. around 4 knots perfic.

Captain Faffer :)

brilliant captain!

very well done, some of the text brings back memories of similar feelings when I got MiToS back in the water after 4yrs on the hard.
enjoy!

V.

PS. tell her that I'll send the bill for the neck injuries sustained looking at the videos at 90deg :p

Love it, well done what an achievment
Love the Parrot too
Got some good friends who lived (virtually) an a Merry Fisher 625 for ages, parrot an all!
Pity its yer shoulder / arm thats a problem
Wooden leg would be most appropriate!
Yes, don't go to Sea as such
She is in the enviroment that suits
Glad the industrial rudder set up worked
Defies all marine engineering logic
But then again
They said Man would never fly!!!
:encouragement:;)

Well done! Love the name :)!

Swapped and changed a few times but i like this one, says the boat all over lol

Hey you best get down here so i whack you over the head with the rudder now as i proved it will work :):):) lol

call you in a mo ;)

Soooo good to see that boat floating.

So good to be wrong too - I thought at first you’d never do it. But I don’t think I was alone in that. You have done a simply stunning job. Amazing.

Still think you’re a nutter. I was right about that bit. Captain Nutter now though.

Grow some grass outside your house and don’t put another project there until you’ve enjoyed this one!!!!

Fantastic to see you get to the end!

And how to rotate a video within youtube, guide here..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lesh5HoNxEo (Hmm, no longer seems valid as I just tried to find it in my own youtube channels)

Found a clunky way of doing it.

You can still do it, but you have to go to Classic Editor and delete the enhance-rotate-buttons hidden command.

-Go to Classic Edit
-Right Click "Trim" button and click Inspect
-Find id="enhance-rotate-buttons" (Should be below the selected code, but not always) Then delete the text which follows.
Should Delete:
hidden="true"
-Click somewhere off of your selected text and the rotate buttons should appear next to the trim button.

You will have to do this for every video you want to rotate.

This feature is critical. It needs to come back. Or if somebody could create an extension that brings this functionality back that would be awesome.

Well done Wayne! That a major achievement and I hope you get to enjoy lots of happy times on board along with the good woman. It's their patience, support and understanding that helps get these projects past the finish post. I'm still up to my tonsils in (real) work, but there's always next year. Congrats!

Congratulations :encouragement: you’ve inspired us all. In fact tomorrow I’m going down to the dock for some DIY.
She looks great on the water and I’m sure that soon your arm will feel better. Fun on the water, enjoy;)

Great result, lovely to see her in the water
if you can find the leak, try some Pratley Putty on it as a temporary fix until the next time the boat is lifted out.

Well Done Wayne it has been a long Journey but seeing her on the Water makes it all worth the work. All who followed this thread I am sure are so pleased to see how it has turned out. She is a credit to your hard work and of course the patience and understanding of your wife. Have many happy times on the Plant pot that used to be

I just looked back to the start of this thread. It was almost 3 years ago. It is worth going back to the original page and reading a few of the initial comments

A big +1 from me. One of the best threads on the forum.

Hope your arm feels better soon.

First off massive thanks for the comments, yes its been a long haul but well worth it just for the hell of it in a way i just love to faff about with things and in the end something to show for it and enjoy.

Now so sorry for the late thanks from me aswell for the help along the way in project for donations and help to find gear. You now who you are ;) What a machine it is, a classic Reeds Sail Maker. Materials for lining out and bit n bobs etc. If you guys ever want weekend away just let me know and its yours, its on the Lancaster canal in the middle, which is what i believe is once of the best canals in the UK.

Now just got back from a week i think away, had to come home inbetween for a post op.

I got some videos done, god i sound like a reat old Lancashire/Yorkshire type eeerrr i dont know what, first time i ever heard my own voice lol.

I cant rest, so been looking already, this i found very local to where my boat is actually, and is a boat of my dreams, and a cracking project if only i had the cash for it. but you get the idea of what i want to head for.

Asking £5k for it, do me.

BUT, i will be working my way up over the next 12 months or so to see what i can do to gain funds for the big next project. One idea is to get a Colvic or Hardy type boat to fettle then go form there. get used to the sea and get the big one :)

Watch this ot the other space :)

Again thanks to all for helping and following, hope it has encouraged for folk to crack on with there own boats .

Captian Faffer :)
