Buckingham 20 restoration, formerly Plant Pot

Just like to share my relief a sits not that bad an outcome from the BSS.

It failed yes but only on a mistake by myself when i bought he fire extinguishers i addd the wrong one sto my ebay shopping basket. I usually check things when i get them but for some reason i didnt this time, but then it was a fair old shopping list.

Not sure if a lot of fok kno wbut inland water ways and BSS regs state all fire Extinguishers and blankets needs the have the correct BSI Kitemark on them. Which these dont have.

Just need to fit hem and send pictures of proof to the examiner for him to sign my boat off.

So well happy and a relief as this is the first full rebuild/refit of a boat i have done from scratch.

Ah well it begins, boredum, I have been up since 6am for a `light snack` as i cant eat after 7am due to the operation at 1pm today :( I will of passed out by then so wont need any anesthetic. Got to watch my blood sugars though, seems daft when i am Type1 and to go so long with no dinner.

Ah well to pass time this is what i have been upto this weekend. Not a great deal in pics but got a fair bit done.

At last got the hull all done and filled sanded back and two coats of primer with one top coat for now and two more to come. I am not putting on Antifoul yet as i dont know the water level and no big deal as its on freshwater canal. If all is well though on the sea which i will be hoping to get the boat to North Wales Conwy and the Menai Straights.

I am not from Glasson Docks where i can have a short cruise to a sea lock to get out for a sea trial. Kawasaki is the man to help me out here as it will be a complete new venture for me on the sea, never mind trying this boat out on the sea. Will be very nerving for me but exciting. Thanks R for offering to help out ;)

Here it is with one coat, as said though i will do another two coats below and another all over.

At last i got the BSC and i am waiting for it to arrive by email, i think he sent it to the wrong email address as i got a confirmation text he sent it to me but nothing as yet.

I dont remember if i said but after he said i just need Kite Marked Exinguishers, yes i was in such a rush i got the wrong ones, daft sod i am. No big deal though.

Well with the oven i fitted, a voyager 4500 he decided a few days after he wanted more ventilation fiitting. Odd as its only advisory for ventilation on the BSS, Who am i to argue so i cracked on and got three 95mm Clamshell vents and another UFO vent to go with the Solar Vent i already had. He wanted minimum 8500sqmm free air flow but these give 10Ksqmm, although he cant include the Solar vents free air flow.

Easy enough to fit.

Once pushed through the pilot drill through of the hole saw i went from the inside to mark and cut the lining with a blade to save ripping it up.

20190609-090614.jpg

These holes will be vented over soon enough.

20190610-142941.jpg

Sorry all pics i got of the fitting there but you get the idea.

Next the UFO

Where i have fitted it there was originally a hole which i had plated over with a GRP disc which has been water tight for years ( i did apply plenty of Sikalfex 291i ) now so instead of removing it i have cut through that for the UFO .

20190609-100031.jpg

Then the Solar vent.

One thing i dont get with these things is to swap the fan blades you need to remove the top cover and solar to get to the motor/fan. Daft design, very daft. I liek how you have to stick your finger through the fan from the inside to turn it on/off though lol.

My jig saw didnt quit get through the roof and just 3mm short so the Multi tool came in handy here.

20190609-135659.jpg

All sealed and fitted with Sikalfex 291i and 316 SS Self tapper.

Another job for the BS was plaques needed to be screwed down.

20190610-135722.jpg

The rear deck need another coat of paint as you can see, reason i screwed down the plaques instead of double sided tape. can e removed easier to paint.

Cant be to carfeful hey Co2 and fire blanket. Well mandantory now for the BSS.

Ah just remembered i need to go out and finish and wiring the bilge. Mite tidy the shed then time for the hospital :)

So lay up for a week or so until the launch. I am going to go insane AAAAaarrrrrrr.

Captain Faffer.

good luck with the operation - give the rest of you a rest as well after all the brilliant work.
looking forward to the launch.

Thanks :)

But...

The op was cancelled again down to the point i was in my best PJ`s and marked up with a big black arrow ponitng up my arm , that dose worry me when they do that lol.

So back to work now until next week when they said they will get me in first thing, all to do with there cock up and not listening to me at the Pre Op and bookings.

Boat launch is still on, good job i checked with the crane yesterday a she put the launch date down for 28th June not 24th as we have in emails confirmation.

Getting a bit annoyed i think now. I have work on my Boat Services and big jobs coming up to start mid May on wards and i dont think i will be able to do them now. I hate to let folk down but health is the issue now. If i dont slow down now it will catch me up worse and even sooner than than it has done.

Ah well off to work now.

Captain Faffer :)

Can you guess this weekends job, besides if its nice weather to do a little more painting and little jobs.

Have to say i am pretty dam chuffed as this is my first attempt at real sewing.

I did have a go first on scrap green canvas i had before i used the Top Gun canvas, cant be ruining that now.

Zip is a bit rough but works and does the job here.

20190612-191812.jpg

The zips actual cushions are better though, neater i should say.

Hye ho rear deck cushions done. Now its the interior to be done tomorrow i hope. Got the foam ready and i will have a go at wadding them out a bit to see what difference is first though.

Wayne,

It looks like this is just a scoop that covers a hole straight through to the cabin, if you do eventually go to the coast you may want some way to block this off. Even if you do not go out in bad weather the wash from larger boats might have you taking some water over the bow.

That could work as hospital policy, then I think, how many times have I put my pyjamas on back to front:nonchalance:

cushions look v.good W!
well done, looking fwd to the pics of the whole lot assembled and in place with plantpot floating :D
cheers
V.

@Richard C

Vents have yet to be finished. They are just a quick job to please the BSC inspector. They also need bug screen with the inner covers when i get them.

Bouba

Its bloody annoying isnt Dennis, in best jim jams they they say go home. Atleast i have priority this week to get done.

V

Well its going to be 5 days longer to wait now as i have had to put it back due to the operation, i have listened to sense fro once and rest after the op a bit longer and also the new helm i have got from a chap i did some work on has a part missing, the cable adaptor is not here, i am sure i left it on his boat. I called him but he is not down to his boat until later this week maybe to have a look.

I cant find one anywhere either.

Oh well, i got done what i could, two coats of paint on the hull fitted the new TV, made a steering link for the outboard. And done a little more sewing. Oh and fixed a leak i made on the shower when faffing about.

To tell the truth been a bit stressed lately and need to chill out, had to lay off two big jobs i had on and its not like me. I have for once listened to T and others.

I am sorry to say tht i didnt not fit one due to me being such a faffer i have ran out of 316SS washers and all i had was rusty mild steel ones, NOT on my boat lol. So it will have to wait.

Well spotted though ;)

And the Bilge Bar will be full in time for the launch, need a Wine and Gin rack to fit :)
